An old favourite of Bangaloreans, Banjara is still a popular multi cuisine restaurant.

Decor
Banjara is one of the old Bangalore restaurants that made their mark many years ago. Now obscured by the many new entrants in the restaurant scene, this place at the Goldfinch hotels continues to draw upon it’s loyal clientele. Low backed chairs, wall murals and a wall mounted Television streams out cricket matches to make sure you are on the ball with the latest scores.

Food
As multicuisine as it can get, Banjara has Indian, Chinese and Continental dishes like the almost vintage Lobster Thermidor and Prawns Newburg. Sticking to Indian we ordered the special Banjara Kababs with fresh herbs and spices and a whole Tandoori Pomfret. The latter was as good as it can be but that is to be expected of any Goldfinch property which has Mangalorean provenance, so fresh sea food here is a given. Prawns Koliwada were good too though the batter could have been less viscous. Bhindi do pyaza was delectable and the crisp garlic naan met our approval. Mutton Rizala was disappointing as it was not aromatic enough and the meat pieces had not commingled with the gravy. After a long time we had the opportunity to order another retro dish – fried ice cream. And that made us happy.

Plus and minus
Banjara is a nice trip down memory lane to try some dishes of yesteryears. The Chef needs to get out a little bit to see what’s happening in other restaurants. ( maybe too negative?)

Banjara Kababs, Bhindi do pyaza and Tandoori Pomfret.
