My Best Friend’s Wedding is the epitome of chick flick-dom. Remember the scene when the bully Julia Roberts pushes the shy Cameron Diaz up on stage at a karaoke bar? Poor Cam looked scared to death. She managed to muster up some courage and sang “I Just Don’t Know What To Do With Myself” only to woo the crowd; because at a karaoke bar, everybody loves an underdog.
Karaoke is a great way to spend a night out with friends when everybody is in high spirits. All those shy bunnies in your group turn out to be Tina Turners’ and Adeles’ after a few drinks and a little bit of prodding.
Because EVERYBODY LOVES AN UNDERDOG AT A KARAOKE BAR.
One place that comes to mind when I think of karaoke is The Boat Club which shut down last year. Monday nights were never the same after that. But, after Boat Club shut down, a plethora of choices appeared in front of me. Here’s a list of places where you can enjoy karaoke every night of the week in Mumbai and remember nothing about it the next morning (just kidding) only to go back to another place and start the process again.
Located in bustling Pali Naka, Soul Fry has been around for a while now. Although it has lost its original charm, they have regular customer who return for the delicious fare. They have a well stocked bar that will keep you fuelled while you sing your hearts out. Where: Ground Floor, Silver Craft Building, Pali Mala Road, Bandra (W), Mumbai, 400050
This is probably the only place in Powai area with karaoke. The restaurant is beautiful and has ample space to accommodate your singing and dancing. There is a separate family section so don’t worry about disturbing other patrons. Where: Haiko Place Mall, First Level, Central Avenue, Hiranandani Gardens, Powai, Mumbai, 400076
When it comes to budget drinking, this is the place to go. With a pint of beer costing approximately Rs.175, you can bet you will have a whale of a time. This place attracts young crowd from the nearby area and you will spot a lot of corporate crowd just enjoying a mid-week, after-work nigh out. Where: Sujata Building, Santacruz (W), Mumbai, 400054
Andheri West has another place where one can unleash the singer within. Road House Bluez on JP Road hosts karaoke nights every Thursday and Sunday. Although they don’t have any deals on karaoke nights, it does become a must visit purely because it’s in Andheri West, which houses a lot of offices in the vicinity, making a karaoke night with your office buddies quite convenient. Where: Ground Floor, Tokyo House, Jaya Prakash Road, Andheri West, Mumbai, 400053
SoBo can enjoy another karaoke joint on Friday nights. This little place serves up some delicious cocktails that will keep you going into the wee hours of the night. The location makes it convenient for you to hop to some other joint in the vicinity if you wish to pub hop. Where: First Floor, Rajabahadur Mansion, Ambalal Doshi Marg, Fort, Mumbai, 400001
Walk into the plush Orchid Hotel near the airport and karaoke in style. Choose from an eclectic cocktail list and munch on the crowd favourite wasabi peas and sing your favourite songs. What’s even better is that this place is open till 1.30 AM. Where: The Orchid Hotel, Plot No. 70/C, Nehru Road, Vile Parle East, Mumbai, 400099
Add a bit of fun to your Sunday brunch at The Little Door. You can enjoy a wide spread of delicious food, sangrias, chilled beers and delectable cocktails. Not only do they have karaoke inthe day, you can also play board games and spend your Sunday afternoon relaxing. What’s great is that you can walk-in wearing flip-flops and shorts. No dress code! Where: Ground Floor, Shree Siddhivinayak Plaza, Plot No. B 31, New Link Road, Andheri (W), Mumbai, 400053
