The evil Queen longs for a life without death. But the only way she can have it is being destroying the fairest of them all -- Snow White. She needs to rip off Snow White's heart from within her body, literally. But the only place where she can reach Snow White is the forest - just where her evil powers do not work. Can the Huntsman, chosen by her, do the needful?
Is it right to tamper with tales we have actually grown up on? Yes. It's okay to experiment with fairy tales as long as it's gripping, racy and, if need be, deadly. And the level of experimenting could range from anything between twists and turns in the storyline to making the evil Queen look much more conniving... much more dangerous... much more larger than life. Believe it or not, the evil Ravenna here overshadows Snow White in every sense of the word. Talk of the character and Queen Ravenna comes across as the epitome of the woman who wants everything - money, fame, kingdom, beauty forever and immortality - at the cost of anything. Talk of the actor and Charlize Theron leaves no stone unturned when it comes to executing that power, passion and utmost greed. She is sometimes seen doing what she ought to do with watery, fiery eyes, sometimes with powerful speeches and monologues... and sometimes with the help of special effects.
The very first shot and you know Snow White and the Huntsman is going to be a jolly good visual treat, often brought out through contrasts. There are three stunningly red drops of blood in the white, snow covered landscape right in the beginning; the end has the same three drops of blood against the backdrop of the stony castle. And in between lies the chase through the forbidding Dark Forest full of black shadows, ugly creatures, hissing snakes, followed by the seven dwarfs and their magical Fairy Land full of colourful butterflies, sparkling streams and birds singing here and there. In fact, there are times you are left wondering how this would look in 3D, specially when the chase and battles get more gloomy with horses, the Black Army, swords and shields.
Finally, it is the sharp contrast to Julia Roberts' recently released Mirror Mirror that works in favour of this one. If that was funny, crazy and not-so-serious, this one is dark and vicious. However, it's the length of the movie that seems a way too long. But then all is justified when first time director, Rupert Sanders, gets back to the tried and tested fairly tale formula (of the happily-ever-after kiss) right in time. And all logic be damned... for there are two men - The Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) and Prince William (Sam Claflin) -- trying to woo the Princess. Wonder who gets to kiss Ms. White?
For now, over to Snow White, her (fairy) tale, the thumping background score, the visual treat, the fact that you know it (the story, we mean) all... and of course, Queen Ravenna....

I have rather liked mirror mirror with same plot. With big budget and big stars this movie do not offer much!!! The acting of Kristen Stewart is pathetic.

Every Individual has his own ways of liking or disliking something. I see most of the critics too speaking in the same average terms Charlize Theron is seen after a long time in a very different role and i must say that she's been amazing throughout the whole plot

Incoherent plot.. bad screenplay.. average acting.. and ya "the more fairer the woman is the more pure her blood is" racist movie.. fantasy movies need to have a potent screenplay as they are set up in unrealistic surroundings, instead this movie lacked in it a big way. All the unrealistic incidents should have a base to convince the viewer, like the movies LOTR or Avatar did. Thats the very basic thing otherwise you will be lost in an idiotic movie where anything and everything is posiible and sometimes nothing is possible. There were many incoherent incidents having no relation to the plot. The world's worst movie "RaOne" boasted some of the worst illogical incidents without forming a base for them and this film is ready to challenge that..

Amen to that. Saw the movie a couple of days ago without any expectations or hype. So no bias. Going through the movie was like watching someone's LSD trip. Charlize Theron who was cast as the evil queen was a huge disappointment. The role demanded a lot more when it comes to expression and emotional range and Charlize couldn't deliver and also was clearly beyond her acting breadth. The rest of the roles had limited requirement so nothing much to talk about there. This movie seriously made me wonder if hollywood was just as bad as our own tinseltown. Story was the same. Some changes here and there. It seemed like the objective of the movie was making the snow white story more realistic. I hope the irony of that attempt was not lost on the guys who came up with the concept for the movie. Rehashing fairy tales with a modern take does not appeal to smart people. Next time I hope that the producers use two monkeys with a typewriter to come up with a movie concept. At least that movie might be coherent.

Finally a brand new avatar of Miss Bella Swan( presently Mrs Cullen) is seen in this movie. Charlize Theron is seen after a long time in a very different role and i must say that she's been amazing throughout the whole plot. It has Chris Hemsworth as one of the leading characters. His masculine character & Kristen's performance totally grabbed whole of my attention. I enjoyed watching this new dimensional Snow white..!

This movie is one of the below average movies among all the Snow White movies.Very true, instead of asking who is fairer of all, it would be better to ask who is darkest....recent Mirror mirror movie was lot better than this movie.

Once u are able to understand movies apart from the likes of Rowdy Rathore and Dabang u will be able to appreciate real cinema. I hope u were not expecting an item no. in this film. (That surely would have disappointed you)

apart from the plot, i think the performances of these actors should be appreciated & for that reason i consider this movie to be good in my opinion.

I was talking only in terms of other Snow white movies. You are feeling as if you are produces or actor of the Snow White And The Huntsman. I see most of the critics too speaking in the same average terms. You can check the numbers abt wht others are saying rather than going by your own views just to prove someone wrong.I don't find any sense in comparing a Hindi movie with this one.
