On the ultra busy TTK Road, Teppan's interiors are peaceful, almost respectful to the food that is created here. Located on the first floor of a renovated old house Teppan has carved a niche for itself. Always full, even on a week day, it is done up comfortably yet in a minimalist way. The restaurant's white and blue show pieces are from Japan, but the bamboos you can see from your window flourishes beautiful, lush and green on Chennai soil. Here, the food is the hero as are the four Teppan or huge square iron plates on which the food is freshly grilled. One grill is completely dedicated to the vegetarians. 'We do not even break an egg on it,' the chef says, respectfully. Fish form the basis of the Sushi served here, and takes a little getting used to in the mind, but once you are over that, it tastes fabulous. For the salmon comes straight from Norway, while the tuna, red snapper and sea bass are best in the Indian Ocean. Teppan's fresh and fabulous mackerel is flown in from Japan. All the colourful fish are displayed in a 'fish bar' so you can choose your seafood of the day. Japanese food is best eaten fresh and Teppan ensures you get yours cooked in front of you, as you sit around the grill making conversation with fellow diners. It is a social dining concept where complete strangers sit around the Teppan, make conversation, watch the chef cook their food and eat. At the end of your Japanese meal, you can choose from a huge variety of global desserts, including fresh fruit, and wash it all down with some Oriental style green tea. Just remember to make reservations before you walk in for dinner. Yes, even on week days.

It is a very lovely restaurant with a good non veg variety of Japanese food. In fact, their European food is also a treat for taste buds. Sushi is their special preparation and its superb in taste and presentation. Australian Sea Bass is another must have item on my order. I simply enjoy dining here as their prime focus is on food and nothing else.

Simply putting, Sushi, Tofu and New Zealand Rack of Lamb are their special very special thing that is available in here. This not so old place has many global dishes that are prepared authentically and tastes absolutely delicious. It is where you can experience newer and delicious new dishes.

Teppan serves great and delicious food, superb service and excellently done ambiance. I love the Miso Soup, assorted green vegetables and mushroom, Norwegian Salmon, Austalian Sea Bass and Japanese Scallop a lot. The food prepared here are really delicious and delectable. The aroma of the food is so good that you can’t resist from eating them. Also, the service of the restaurant is amazing. Service staffs are friendly and very prompt. It is amazing place to be at.
