he explains that he comes from the Turkish town of Izmir. We instantly fall in love with the breads, naan and pitta-style pockets of soft dough that have been made into envelopes to be stuffed with all manner of yoghurt dips and savoury spreads that go under various names such as Antep Mezze, Horiatiki Salata, which we would qualify as similar to our raitas and chutneys. The Hot Mezze looks even more familiar: they resemble our vadas, but nothing could be more unlikely. The falafel, Hummus Beiruti, Chicken Tagine, and Prawn Pastilla are dishes that you shouldn't miss. Plenty of choice for vegetarians including a creamy Potato and Pumpkin Soup and Pan-seared Vegetables and a wonderful wedge of cheese dribbled with an olive puree. If you're looking for just one reason to go to Kefi, it has to be the chef's favourite, a lamb cooked to perfection with Arabian rice. Baklava here is everything it should be. As though to end a perfect evening, we went to the wishing well at Kefi and shattered a ceramic plate for good luck as all those who imbibe the spirit of Kefi or freedom, must do.
