Sarvana Bhavan is synonoumous to Vegetarian South Indian food not only in the country but across the globe now. When it comes to great taste and popularity, Saravana Bhavan has it pat down to a formula and you'll be lucky if you get a place to sit during lunch hour. The food is exceptionally good and is great VFM. And the hotel doesn't shy away from mentioning in their menu that all dishes are cooked in ghee. Their signature dish is their superbly turned out Masala Dosas and of course their almost red Kesari Bhath. You can also go for their Kaima Idli, Mixed Parota. There are Saravana Bhavan's all over the world, but if you're in Chennai and you haven't eaten here, you surely have missed a taste of what good food in these parts can be. Reason for such a low rating.
I am a female. I went to Saravana bavan and a customer was disrespecting me by staring, making annoying expressions and he eventually left his number on a napkin on top of my plate of food. I felt uncomfortable. I go to a restaurant to eat, not to be harassed by other customers. The management should have controlled this. You cant eat food if you feel insulted and unsafe. This fat Muslim man from North India walked into a South Indian vegetarian restaurant with his 3 wives. Aren't Muslim men supposed to lower their gaze? They dont respect non Muslim women. There were so many social issues behind this incident that were so degrading. The management should control this and protect women.
Besides this, the food is excellent at Saravana bavan.

I had visited several times this restaurant and irrespective of the timings I always found it is fully crowded and that itself says about the quality of HSB (Hotel Sarvana Bhavan) the food variety was excellant ,however I will say the best thing to be HSB is the Masala dosa and the speciality sambhar and different chatnis...I have visited the restaurant sometimes @ 6.30 am in the morning and sometimes @ 11.00 pm at night ,but the food taste and the quality was the only thing that was same apart from the crowd @ HSB. I will highly recomend HSB for it's unique combination of service-quality-taste.
You will hardfy find anyone who will have negative point for this restaurant.so go ahead and enjoy and make your unforgatable journey to the soth india's most favourite food chain across the world :)

South Indian food can't get better than what HSB(Hotel Saravana Bhavan) prepare, their USP is the taste-qualtiy-service (ofcourse this 3 means to be singular for them) they maintain throughout all the Branches in Chennai and other branches in the Country. However I'm not sure about their International franchises. If you are in Chennai, dont miss to step-in to HSB. If you are there try out:
* Mini Tiffin
* Adai Avial, Vada, Pongal
* Tamilnadu Meals
* Filter Coffee
* All variety of dosas n Idlys
They even prepare North Indian dishes that taste as authentic as it tastes in any Dhaba!
