The one place in the city with enormous amounts of nostalgia value, you either ‘get’ TC or you don’t. Plenty of people do get it, and they are of all age groups. There is a whole generation who virtually grew up here, in an age when it was called Turquoise Cottage. Then, there is the new generation which has discovered this rather timeless, extremely unpretentious place on its own. The upshot is that TC has tocater to both sets of people. Let it be said that it does so effortlessly. It’s not a speciality restaurant: what it has is comfort food. So, your Chilli Chicken Platter may not be from a recipe that originated in Beijing, but it’s an identifiably TC preparation. The music is carefully chosen to appeal to various sections of the audience, but after a certain hour, it recedes into the background anyway. TC is all about a comfort zone and comfort food.
