Some things get better with age and after almost three decades of being on the gourmet food map, Orient Express proves it’s here to stay. A great venue for a celebration or just for a special evening, Orient Express routinely makes it to “Best” lists and there’s no wonder why. Even if you just want to sit and sip your single malt (from their extensive collection) in peace with the background of live piano music, this is the place to go to. The movie like feel of sitting in a train, a fancy and glamorous one, is superceded only by the delicious fare here. For the first time ever, it has started serving a la carte dishes, so that you need only order one or two if you so wish, instead of a fixed meal of five courses. The restaurant offers its customers pashmina shawls and reading glasses on request, and that says something for service. Kobe, Caviar, Lobsters, Perigord Truffles, Normandy Butter, the ingredients are premium and offerings like the Camembert Soufflé, Pate de Foie Gras, Smoked Salmon, Rack of Lamb and the best Chocolate Soufflé in town are must try dishes. The amazing thing about Orient Express is how it has managed to keep up with the times without appearing to alter its core.

Classics are called so for a reason and the grand dame parked at the Taj stands testament to that. A replica of a Pullman Orient Express carriage - the legendary train that runs through Europe, also depicted in Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express - this fine dine restaurant spells class. There's an artistic flare in the way things are done here. The dining area is enclosed within the train, so the railway platform is the bar. Their cigar selection is as enviable as their rare whiskey collection standing at over 150. Not surprising then that they outline the nose and palate and give comments on everything from a 40-year old vintage Bruichladdich to an Armagnac Marcel Trepout 1947. The wine list is exhaustive wine, but it's worth ordering cocktails just to see some mastery. Side Car is the best pick with brandy and Cointreau doing their bit, while Gin Fizz leaves you giddy. There are no bar snacks, but you can choose from the a la carte menu spanning all countries the train passes through as you munch on salmon canapes. Go indulge in the good life as the smooth singing of the lady accompanied by a piano player keeps you enthralled.

The setting of this restaurant is very curious like you are inside a train compartment. The interiors are also done accordingly. There are 'bunkers' to keep goods, the semi circular roof & coupes made within. The concept of food here is a 4 course meal. There are approx. 8 - 10 options in each section & u will have to choose 1 out of that. We chose different dishes in every section & tasted from each other's. So, we ended up having 8 dishes instead of 4. This 4 does not include loads of stuff served on the house. We chose non alcoholic drinks from multiple options - Orange juice & Ginger & a mixed Citrus fruit drink. Both were OK not bad at all Good but nowhere close to the standards of food at The Orient Express. Overall very nice place to visit again and again.

Dishes: Crabs

Tips: Good place for couples,Offers free Wi-Fi

There are very few European/Continental restaurants in Delhi NCR that inspire me to scrape every last morsel off my plate. The Camembert Souffle on the Orient Express menu is just such a dish. It is commonly known that when a Chef is really talented, one of the ways he shows off his expertise is by preparing the perfect Souffle (that rises beautifully). It was so good that had to roll my sleeves and dig into this perfect Souffle. Embarrassed at first as I was eating like a complete glutton, I could not care less when I took the first bite because what I had on my plate was perfection personified. The restaurant has set menus and you can have a three, four or a five course meal. I obviously chose the five course meal because I just had to have everything. The Foie Gras was delectable, the best Foie Gras Ive tasted in a long time - highly recommended. You know a meal is great when after finishing it, you feel so full that it seems like you just gave birth to an alien. Thats exactly how we all felt. I could see it on the guys' tummies. Their shirts felt tighter than when they began eating. Not that the portion size was huge or anything, it was just all so good that none of us left a speck uneaten. The Chocolate Souffle was splendid. I can say with confidence that if you havent had a Chocolate Souffle, you havent had good dessert. The way Orient Express did it was commendable, everything was just right. The Chocolate Souffle was lighter than air - baked to perfection. And finally, before I conclude my review, I have to say that if you go to Orient Express and do not miss their Rack of Lamb or you will regret it. You would miss something really special, melt-in-the-mouth and flavoursome. I cannot wait to go back to Orient Express for its magnificent food, live melodious (piano) music and servers who come over and offer you a pashmina when you get cold. It really is a special place!

Stocking and using ingredients rarely seen in Delhi including the tea drink, Kombucha and the Filipino Lemon, Calamansi - the barkeep has some surprises up his sleeve. The Himalayan Lemongrass with ginger and gin muddled and served tall is an ideal summer fizzy cooler, while the Pineapple Cardamom Magic is a spicy, vodka based elegant drink. There are no snacks as Tres exploits the concept of small plates that people can share. From these, we recommend the Lamb Chops that are flash fried and served with a mildly herby white sauce and the Spicy Pork. It all comes very reasonable and the waiting time is not too long as well
