How do you make a coffee shop with an interesting personality? Kafe Fontana has chosen an ambitious one: they serve Lebanese food on their menu and buffets plus they have a green corner - a salad bar where everything is either fresh, lowcalorie or organic and includes both salad leaves and dressings. Their open kitchen serves pizzas, but the star of the show is the rarely seen oval Turkish Pizza. Djaj Meshwi or Chicken Shawarma are hearty meals in themselves. Pleasant weather and the chairs out of the doors make enjoyable seating. Their friendly, yet professional, service has always been their plus point.

Sorry, not at all impressed!
I took my family (wife & two teen-aged kids) for a leisurely dinner celebrating good academic performance of our kids to Kafe Fontana, Taj Palace Hotel, New Delhi on August 17, 2011... on consulting the maitre d', we zeroed in on our order for food...we started with soups, 'sherry drenched chicken consomme' (Rs.345/-) and 'porcini mushroom cappuccino' (thick veg. soup - Rs.345/-). Chicken soup was a complete disaster, it appeared as chicken dust mixed with clear water and tasted very ordinary. The veg soup was alright. Our main courses were, 'Samak Makli' (pan fried fish marinated with Middle Eastern spices - Rs.700/-), 'Shish Taouk' (Turkish char grilled chicken in garlic & lime marinade - Rs.650/-), Grilled tenderloin with Rosemary scented vegetables (Rs.750/-) and Ratatouille provencal with herb crusted polenta (Rs.700/-) ...enchanted with the names ??? Now read on....fish preparation was passable with nothing to write home about; grilled chicken was good though it tasted more like our 'desi' avatar, chicken malai tikka; tenderloin was NOT tender at all, rather tough needing quite forceful incision by knives and ratatouille was grossly disappointing!!! Serving the food also took a long time and the restaurant interiors were not at all upto the 5-star standards...Cafe Fontana attracted a sizable patrons though, may be the hotel boarders, as this happens to be the cheapest dining option among the food outlets in Taj Palace. On the overall, now you know everything about 5-star is not of star quality!

Kafe Fontana is a pleasantly surprising combination of many things. Even though it is named Kafe there are many things that they are serving and gathering loyal diners.
You get to choose from Lebanese cuisine and there are salads and other healthy, low fat items, pizzas and much more. Chicken Shawarma is the signature dish of Kafe Fontana.
