Looking for Chinese in CR Park? Walk in to Flaming Wok. Its decor has orange and off-white as the dominant mood of the moment. For starter, you may have Crispy Veg Pepper Salt. The vegetables are fresh and sure to enhance your appetite. Their Crispy Lamb remains crispy for a long time. The whole black beans used in their Lamb in Black Beans Sauce give it a flavour of its own. The prawns they offer are often superior to those you get in CR Park or INA market. Do go for Golden Fried Prawns here. Set your palate aflame at the Flaming Wok.

Flaming Wok located on a commercially important thoroughfare is a typical neighbourhood joint, where the localites from CR Park and Kalkaji have their fill on pocket-friendly Chinese food mostly as take-aways and home deliveries. While dining in is an option with its 20 odd seating capacity in a cozy setting, the restaurant seems to depend more on its clientele over tele-orders as we hardly found any diners on a Wednesday evening. Nevertheless the wait-staff was all eager to attend to us as we also desired to get the food packed.
At the outset, we specifically asked them to do away with monosodium glutamate (ajinomoto) in all the food orders as one of us might be allergic to the compound. For six of us, we had asked for two portions each of lemon coriander chicken soup (Rs.145.00 each) and sea food soup (Rs.195.00 each)…they were prepared rather well with lots of shiitake mushroom, chunks of chicken and a good number of shrimps along with fish in the seafood variant. Our main course order of a portion of chicken with mushroom & bamboo shoot (Rs.300.00) had a very distinctive aroma with generous use of fresh bamboo shoot pieces. For milder options, we chose a portion each of clay pot chicken (Rs.320.00) and clay pot vegetables (Rs.250.00) – both these dishes lived up our expectations. We also ordered two portions of veg hakka noodles (Rs.140.00 each) and a portion of veg fried rice (Rs.160.00); they were prepared quite well with less oil.
Flaming Wok offered a discount of 10% on the bill for take aways and the net amount including VAT for our entire order was Rs.2015.00 – such pricing would certainly win them clientele, who look for an affordable Chinese fare while escaping from the kitchen chores on an evening for a change!
