Once you've braved the uninspiring location, you enter a cleverly designed space that transports you into the Silk Route. Because of their long battle with dug-up roads right in front of the restaurant, footfalls have fallen drastically, and as a corollary, so has quality. The Chinese has a unique distinction: it specializes in food from the Hunan province of China. his is available along with the regular stuff that's cooked all over China. Their Tea Flavoured Prawns are unique, Braised Duck with Tree Mushroom flavourful and even Steamed Eggplant with Garlic manages to be a gourmet treat. Hunanese food has many parallels with Indian food: there is a love of spicy, sometimes sour food and spices that are familiar to us make their appearance, as in the Lamb with Cumin. We hope Connaught Place will be restored to its former glory and The Chinese will be back on its one-time pedestal.

Went for lunch there today after wading through the dug-up CP F-block. The decor was filthy - the walls were obscenely mucky, and those white Chinese characters hanging from the ceiling were so full of dirt that one would be scared to have lunch beneath. And, oh, there were houseflies hovering around!
I went for the Braised duck. And though the menu mentioned they do 3 varieties of it, they had none on the house this afternoon. Instead, I was suggested the Dry Pot Fish with Steamed Rice, which I took. The fish-dish turned out to be too sour - as if the vinegar was overdone. Is that the taste of Hunan? If yes, then sorry, I am no game for it again. What I know is that Hunan cuisine is spicy with dark gravies, but these two characters were simply missing from the dish.
The service was okay-ish. It was a Bong waitress who attended me, and I don't have anything against her. Only thing, she just didn't look the part.
The lunch-crowd was sparse. For most part, it was populated by the office-goers from around, unlike me who traveled all the way from Noida to enjoy some good food in good environs.
The overall experience was on the downside, and I definitely won't travel down to there unless I hear that they have revamped & renovated.
Favorite Dishes / Drinks: Perhaps The Braised Duck - if the house has it.!

This has to be the worst chinese I have ever been too. These people just do not have any idea how to cook chinese. Now, you have been told: if you waste your time and money on this place you blame yourself!!!!
