Up a flight of stairs is a lovely looking restaurant that looks like an English country cottage from the 1960s. The cuisine served is French and Italian but it is alleviated with touches of Lebanese mezze. One wishes the chairs, beautiful as they are, could be a bit more comfortable, but Bonne Bouche is a fine place to meet up with friends. The wild mushroom soup has a strong flavour of assorted mushrooms, the select seafood concoction (yes! That’s the real name!) is another soup that is elegant and tasty. There is a selection of interesting sandwiches. Stuffed chicken breast with ham, mushroom and cheese with peppercorn sauce typifies the food: more familiar than classic.

This elegant looking ivory bathed French-Italian eatery is a quaint spot in the middle of the busy Defence Colony market with a rustic feel and homely couches that beg you to linger on. A recent welcome addition to the food-laden area, Bonne Bouche celebrates clean, honest flavours and shows a lot of depth in its dishes. A courteous and knowledgeable staff guides you through their concise menu, which is ideal for an introduction to some fine food from both the European regions. Although it’s hard to fit enough options from these food-loving countries, Bonne Bouche does a decent job at it. From the starters, don’t miss the creamy Foie Gras and the scrumptious Morel Mushroom Croutons. These are sure to whet your appetite for some more, and we recommend you dig into the delicate Grilled Lemon Prawns that have just the right amount of acidity and juiciness or go big and indulge with a Pizza Bonne Bouche (goat cheese, oven dried cherry tomatoes, olives, roasted garlic and basil). All of this will match well with a crisp glass of vino and we can’t wait to go back for it!
PS: At the time of going to press, Bonne Bouche was awaiting their liquor license, scheduled to come in by mid-December.
