For those looking for Chinese with a twist, Taipan is the perfect solution. Done Singaporean style, the food here is sophisticated and consistently good. Gaze outside at the lovely views as you bite into their juicy dim sums. For main course, the Crisp Duck with Five Spiced Crushed Peanuts is something you will never forget for the crackle of the skin or the melting meat. The Pork Pao, Pan-fried Noodle and the Mushroom Stir Fry are arguably the best in town. The expat chefs bring in their signature dishes. Be sure to go early as their lunch finishes at 2.45pm and grab a window seat for the views.

The vegetarian fare, if you stick to that, is just ordinary. The duck is superlative and the spring rolls are just done perfectly. The fried rice was passe. The pan fried noodles were decent. But highlight was the tossed vegetable that gives Taipen the much needed boost that other dishes could not.

Taipan is on the 10th floor - and looking out of the wide window into the far-flung city from such a altitude gives you a peaceful high, the feeling that you get having left the din of the city far below! And then their food arrives - and takes you even higher! Their crisp spinach is highly laudatory - it's something I have never had before! The crabmeat-asparagus soup was fine in taste; and the stir-fried lamb was an example in subtlety! Do try their impeccable coconut-icecream - their house specialty! And the service was all too attentive, yet not the least obtrusive. I would recommend to all for at least one visit, if more is not possible. They have a 'dim-sum lunch' option also, which I hear, is almost perfect.
