Dastkari Haat Samiti presents an exhibition of artifacts and textiles commissioned and curated by Jaya Jaitly. The project covers 13 Indian languages, 58 craftspeople, 21 craft skills covering 16 states of India. Sozni embroidery from Jammu & Kashmir, Madhubani from Bihar, Kavad from Rajasthan, Sanjhi from Uttar Pradesh, leather painting from Andhra Pradesh, clay work from Tamil Nadu and more. A 20-minute-long art film on dance and calligraphy by Kalpana Subramanian, choreographed by Navtej Johar and Justin McCarthy, with Rajeev Kumar, calligrapher combining classical dance and calligraphy in a contemporary way.
A 250-page art book Akshara: Crafting Indian Scripts will be released at the exhibition. The book covers a brief history of Indian scripts, old crafts and art with scripts and works of unknown calligraphers.
A children's story book called My Mother in Bengali and English by Bahadur Chitrakar and Jaya Jaitly - collaboration between Dastkari Haat Samiti and Pratham Books. (Original artwork exhibited at Akshara) will be launched by Pratham Publishing.
Regional music with live performances will be held at the Amphitheatre.
Talks and demonstrations by calligraphers during interactive sessions will be held in The Palm Court. Live craft demos will be held at the Experimental Art Gallery.
