Close enough to the main Central Market to afford a hearty meal after shopping, you will share space with Afghan families, single men, super confident Afghan women with beautiful head scarves, Kashmiris and the odd desi table. The television will be on full blast with Afghan soaps and news that everyone listens to attentively. Even the waiters here are from Afghanistan, so Hindi is not as well understood as usual. Also, the concept of "good service" is not what you or I approve of, so do keep that in mind. Mantu are delicious momos made with minced lamb and served in a sauce that includes chana dal. Qabuli Pulao has lamb chunks, carrot juliennes and raisins and is highly recommended. They manage to make even aubergine taste delicious in Borani Banjan, blanketed with a tomato sauce. As much oil as we Indians use, there is something for the vegetarians but there are no spices in their food whatsoever. Green chillies are provided on request. Recommended for the ethnic vibe in the midst of good ole Lajpat Nagar.
