Indian Accent stands alone, head and shoulders above all the competitors, even those in the same genre of modern Indian food. Headed by the extremely talented Chef Manish Mehrotra, it is more in line with the Indian scene in London where ingredients from all over the world are used in Indian food to great effect. It is small and is set in the leafy environs of South Delhi's Friends Colony. The menus change with every season. Potato Thread Sphere with White Pea Ragda and Summer Kakdi could be a highlight on the summer menu, with Foie Gras Stuffed Galawat, Strawberry Green Chilli chutney being glorified on the next. Peanut Butter Chicken with Kasuri Methi Crisp and Chai Glass Lachchha Salad takes a new look at traditional combinations. The leafy environs of The Manor provide the perfect setting. Jaggery and Banana Sticky Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream and Phantom Sweet Cigarettes is a touch of whimsy.

Been in New Delhi since Sunday Morning. Eaten at a different restaurant every night however one just kept calling me back. We only had 2 nights together but already I feel like my post trip blues are kicking in, that holiday romance that would never last fizzled out before i get to the airport.
Ok ok ok! I will cut to the chase. I am going to post the pictures up of each course. It was truly amazing so please forgive my poor photography. The flavors wowed, the food presented was impeccable with a twist. I can't recall all the proper names so a description will have to do.
Sat with the menu and they will bring you a little blue cheese naan, followed by the official amuse bouche which is the soup of the day tonight i was coconut based slightly similar to thai green curry, then it was a crispy ball of something served with a slither of watermelon, the second appetizer was chicken with a peanut and mango salad, yummmm it was delicious. Now the fish course. Previously this had been soft shell crabs and a dipping sauce however someone ate all the crabs. Tonight i had what can only be described as a posh Indian take on a fish finger. No way near as crappy as birds eye, this was a perfectly coked piece of fish that just flaked away seamlessly as the fork worked through it, cooked in masala and butter anyone know where to buy this and coated lightly with bread crumbs.
Now comes what had been my favorite course last time. Minced lamb meat ball with a foie gras centre topped with a slice of calves liver completed with a strawberry chilli and lime pickle just think strawberry jam it was divine!
So now we head to the mains, this looks a bit like a scotch egg and you could say its a posh version. This time minced chicken forms the meat ball while inside is a poached egg yolk cooked to perfection that when you cut into it explodes onto your plate, mixes in with the sauce to add a richness and flavor that no one hates! With the scotch egg i also had some dal how have i lived without this fab accompaniment to any Indian food? a raita and these cross between a cornish pasty and naan bead but stuffed with hop sin duck. Sounds strange but tasted amazing!
Desert is never a strong point in most restaurants I eat. I don't like fancy deserts, normally just get cheese and biscuits... but Indian accent achieved the impossible. They served a duo of deserts, first one being a take on apple pie, with a scoop of home made vanilla ice cream, the second was an Italian biscuit pipe filled with sweet set Indian yogurt almost like a cheesecake.. man this was amaze balls. Literally blew me away!
This restaurant serves the best food in India and worth a trip to Delhi just for the food!

Step 1 - Head to the Manor Hotel in Friends Colony. Parking is difficult but you will find it. Step 2 - Enter the modern Manor Hotel, which feels more like a guest house than a standard hotel, more casual and more inviting.
Step 3 - As you enter the Indian Accent restaurant, hear the soft santoor music and absorb the modern minimalistic decor.
Step 4 - Browse through the menu. Everything here is different. And very good. Some of the dishes on this innovative "East meets West" menu seem rather odd but be adventurous; you will be suitably rewarded.
Step 5 - With your drinks, as they serve you complimentary baby naans with melted blue cheese topping, order more, you are going to love it.
Step 6 - Have paneer tikka and aloo with ragda as your starters. I would give those an A .
Step 7 - Have khandvi ravioli with ricotta cheese and Chowpatti in a bowl as your main courses. Wow! if you want more standard Indian fare, just ask the chef, as they are very accommodating.
Step 8 - All deserts are good, we are spoilt for choice!
Step 9 - Leave a good tip for homely service, taste the churan as a mouth freshener, and as you head home, think about how often one can come to a restaurant like this. We, a foodie family, decided 4-5 times a year!

I am often asked by most people seriously interested in food, which are my top 5 restaurants in India.
And one restaurant thats always in that list is Indian Accent.
Contemporary Indian Cuisine has become something of a buzzword amongst Indian Restaurateurs.
Many predicted four or five years ago that this would be the newest trend, in Indian cuisine.
And then as per usual, we had many serious attempts made at contemporary Indian cuisine, by some of the finest restaurant Impresarios.
Varq at Taj, Ziya at Oberois have all tried to push This New form of Indian cuisne. Perhaps buoyed by the westernized Indian Restaurants in London Like Amaya and Benares getting awarded a Michelin star each.
I have been to these restaurants, and while they are really good, they often seem contrived and a bit forced to me.
Indian Accent is different
The cuisine flows naturally. The east meets west ideas that chef jaideep has, are free flowing and genuis.
The Flavour compositions have made me slap my head many times and say why havent i thought of this before.
Is my pick for anyone who wants to see what a little imagination and a lot of passion can do to truly make Indian cuisine take its rightful stage on the world culinary map.
I am not going to tell how every dish was.
But i highly encourage you to go on this adventure.
You wont regret it.
