Blame it on the MCD! But the romance has been completely demolished from one of my favourite Thai restaurants in town - Thai Wok. As it happens, Thai Wok has relocated, thanks to the municipal sealing, to Punjabi Bagh Extension. Yes, Punjabi Bagh Extension! Well, it's beyond beyond - beyond Dhaula Kuan, beyond Naraina, beyond Mayapuri, beyond Rajouri Gardens basically, bahut bahut beyond! The Tom Yam Koong and the Tom Kha Kai are not half as tangy and fiery as they should be; the Chicken Tom Kha is distinctly curdled and just a wee bit rancid. If the soups department is a let-down, the starter in the form of the Yam Phak Krob more than compensates. First rate stuff, this. In contrast, the Satay Kai and the over-fried spring roll-type Porpia Chae is just passable. For the main course, you could try the Kaeng Pet Phak Ruam. In contrast, the Phad Phrik Chao Suan Phak is a teenie weenie wonder that refuses to satisfy. The Thai Wok Chicken is avoidable; the Pla Ka Pong Dang Phirik Thai Dam is worth a shot. The Phad Thai Phak, likewise, is competent - certainly I've had better. End the meal with the Chocolate Mousse and the Double Chocolate Cheese Cake. Would I recommend the new avatar Thai Wok to you? Would I seriously expect you to make the effort to find it in the maze of a Punjabi Bagh residential colony? Surprisingly, yes. If Thai is your kind of cuisine, it will perhaps measure up. Is it a Thunder Thai? Not quite, but it could Thai-you-down for some time!
