Swagath, owned by the management of Sagar Ratna chain of Udipi eateries, serves the coastal food of Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra, as it is served in the homes of the Saraswat community of that region. While Mumbai is full of Gomantak eateries, Delhi is represented by just one name Swagath. The food is seafood-based, extremely spicy and contains generous quantities of coconut. There are a few sub-heads Green Masala, Butter Pepper Garlic, Koliwada and so forth. Under each is a list of the seafood that the restaurant sells: Pomfret, Crab, Mussels, Prawns, Bombay Duck, Ladyfish, etc. You have to mix and match the style of cooking with the ingredient. There are dry preparations and gravies like Gassi, a coastal curry. The Defence Colony branch serves the best Butter Chicken in the city! Do try the Chicken Ghee Roast, an incendiary preparation. It has to be said that the Janpath Hotel outlet, managed by the owners themselves, is by far the best option of the lot: some of the other branches are franchised out.

One of the fav places for coastal food. Chicken chettinad, Fish Gassi, Appam are all time favorite. Must try chicken biryani, very close to Hyderabadi biryani.

I have a harrowing experience to share. Had lunch at Swagat Restaurant in Leisure valley (near Bikanerwala) yesterday. They handed me a bill with a compulsory Service Charge that most restaurants scrupulously do. To add insult to injury, they also levied a service tax that was based on the total bill + Vat @ 12.5% + Service Charge @ 10%. This amount should have been 4.75% of Service charge i.e. 4.75% of Rs. 267 amounting to Less than Rs. 13. Instead this amount was Rs. 145.44 (See Snap-Shot of the bill below).
I objected to the bill and ask this to be changed and i was refused bluntly by the manager there who told me that i will have to pay no matter what. The so called EXTRAORDINARY SERVICE vanished the moment i brought this up. Most of us don't realize while paying a bill that unknowingly we allow these fraudsters to get away with stealing our money. As a supporter towards the ANTI-CORRUPTION and ANTI-FRAUD campaign i request all readers to boycott SWAGAT Restaurant and other such fraud restaurants who are cheating their customers and operating such accounting frauds openly.
Favorite Dishes / Drinks: Doesn't matter much as it all comes at a scruplous COST!
