Swagath, owned by the management of Sagar Ratna chain of Udipi eateries, serves the coastal food of Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra, as it is served in the homes of the Saraswat community of that region. While Mumbai is full of Gomantak eateries, Delhi is represented by just one name: Swagath. The food is seafood-based, extremely spicy and contains generous quantities of coconut. There are a few sub-heads: Green Masala, Butter Pepper Garlic, Koliwada and so forth. Under each is a list of the seafood that the restaurant sells: Pomfret, Crab, Mussels, Prawns, Bombay Duck, Ladyfish, etc. You have to mix and match the style of cooking with the ingredient. There are dry preparations and gravies like Gassi, a coastal curry. The Defence Colony branch serves the best Butter Chicken in the city! Do try the Chicken Ghee Roast, an incendiary preparation. It has to be said that the Janpath Hotel outlet, managed by the owners themselves, is by far the best option of the lot: some of the other branches are franchised out.

There are quite a few nice places to eat in Gurgaon and I am always looking for more options whenever I visit friends and family there because all of them, like me, love to experiment. Someone told me that the owners of Sagar Ratna own this place and all of us really love Sagar Ratna so we had to try it.
If you like sea food you would love Swagath. I personally love their Jumbo Prawns and whenever I'm at Swagath I make sure that I order their prawns. This may sound like an oxymoron but I really do like to experiment but if I really love something I would stick to it - always.
Their Butter Pepper Garlic is another thing on their menu you must have, like I believe butter makes everything wonderful and there could be nothing better than a dish infused with garlic so this restaurant's Butter Pepper Garlic could not fail with me, absolutely delectable.
Gassi which is a popular coastal curry, lesser known by us, but quite fabulous. The texture was fantastic. Another preparation of theirs which is an absolute hit is their Butter Chicken. I swear to God when I first had it, I felt like I had died and gone to heaven. I really did not believe what good I would have done to deserve such goodness.
For spicy food loves, the Chicken Ghee Roast is perfect, like butter ghee can make anything taste silken. I love preparations in Ghee and with many dishes I feel ghee goes much better than butter.
I have only tried the Gurgaon branch of this restaurant but they have other branches too, one in Defence Colony. The service is very swift, I would have assumed a seafood restaurant to be slower because seafood always tastes better when slow cooked but everything arrived quickly and tasted great.
My family loves this restaurant and even if I don't want to go to Swagath for some reason, I know I will be dragged there....

One of the fav places for coastal food. Chicken chettinad, Fish Gassi, Appam are all time favorite. Must try chicken biryani, very close to Hyderabadi biryani.
