Small corner shops selling fabulously fresh French pastries are a common feature in Paris. Here, they're as rare as nuts inrnMay. Which is why l'Opera is such a treasure. Owned and run by a French family, it makes a few things, but makes themrnsuperbly well. Their macaroon is identical to the French ideal: melting interiors and softly crisp exteriors, with fruit flavours and almond powder that has the consistency of flour. Financiers (muffins with almond powder), eclairs and lemonrntarts are other things to look out for. Most of their ingredients come from France, so prices are not low. On thernother hand, you cannot get this quality elsewhere in the city. Their croissants are light and flaky.
