Owned by a Turkish gent who speaks not a word of English, Alaturka features very good Doner Kebab Rolls, some say the best in the city. These are open spit-grills, more commonly known by the Arabic name Shawarma. There is lamb on the weekends and chicken for the entire week, wrapped in soft Pita Bread. You choose your fillings: tomatoes, onions, lettuce, hummus and garlic dip. Vegetarians can have a Falafel Roll and the newly introduced Shana Golna. You may find yourself here in the company of families from the Middle East for whom Alaturka is a taste of home. There are four stools inside the stall and, of course, the courtyard outside with many tables. Overall, the experience is hearty, satisfying and delicious. Kamaal ka Alaturka!

We visited the food-court at Ambience Mall, Vasant Kunj looking for a quick snack prior to taking the plunge in Big Bazaar for monthly shopping of groceries. To try something new this time, we carefully avoided the KFC outlet and ambled across to Ala Turka. The outlet with a vertical rotisserie grilling chicken against the gas flame was quite appealing. As we neared the counter, the eager staff proffered the menu and advised us to choose chicken doner kebab roll (Rs.180.00 apiece) to enjoy the taste of grilled chicken. Pieces of boneless chicken were sliced off the grill and spread on the Lebanese bread. With slices of tomato and onion added generously and a dash of spicy chutney, the combo was rolled into a neat shape and ready for our consumption within five short minutes. The grilled chicken roll was a quick & healthy snack, which we savoured till the last morsel. I found some of the chicken pieces a little overcooked and not so tender. But I promise to get back soon for trying their falafel, humus and chicken shish kebab rolls.
