Once the place for Delhiwallahs to dine out, the original Daryaganj Moti Mahal is quite a frozen-in-time experience, especially for non-resident Delhiites and foreign tourists who flock here. They gawp in astonishment at the rather basic interiors that have been kept (purely unintentionally, let it be said) at the level of post-Partition days. But even though it has distinctly frayed at the edges, the restaurant offers the cuisine it truly pioneered in the city - Dal Makhni, Butter Chicken, Reshmi Kabab, Murgh Musallam. After all these years, the Tandoori Chicken is still succulent and flavourful. Among the new ones introduced Chicken Burrah, Garlic Reshmi Tikka, Paneer Tikka Amritsari are worth a try. The other Moti Mahal outlets in the city are owned by a motley bunch of partners and family members of the flagship, so that though the menus remain largely the same, standards vary. The others have "Delux", "Deluxe" and "Tandoori Trail" attached to the name, indicating ownership.

Moti Mahal is a known name for those who are well acquainted with the city and its rich culinary culture and for me this is an old world food experience. I usually come here for Murgh Masallam, Dal Makhni and Paneer Tikk Amritsari. The food is the highest scoring area of this restaurant and the ambience is of course holds old world charm. This one outlet is in a posh area and food is served in quick time. Moti Mahal is nice family place for holistic food.
