The famous Fisherman's Wharf at San Francisco has a historical tale to tell. They say most of those boats berthed there belong to a third generation of the fishermen who have made their livelihoods on the waters of San Francisco Bay. Goa too has its Fisherman's Wharf. One can sit on a wooden deck opposite a host of fishing boats run by local families, perhaps third generation too, and watch them rocking on the swell of the river Saal. This classy restaurant has retained the Goan touch from the altairs (relaxing chairs) to the artefacts placed attractively around the place. San Francisco chefs in the numerous restaurants draw on a tradition of innovation and emphasis on fresh, local cuisine. Does the restaurant in Goa work on nature's bounty too? Voi..Voi (yes...yes), fresh catch and local produce gives the menu a wide variety to choose from. In the US of A, the wharf's traditional restaurants reflect San Francisco's Italian heritage, Goa's Fisherman's Wharf reflects its very own heritage - an ample selection of local Goan cuisine. Masala Prawns with that spicy tangy flavour, is great to accompany your drinks. And the thick orange curry with a thick slice of fish (the simple name fish curry rice does not do justice to the taste) is excellent. You can get hooked on it. It is a great place for family outings too, with a Chinese menu with old favourites to tickle your palate. In San Francisco, today, however as in the past, at the heart of the Wharf, it is a place of activity. But here in the peaceful setting, relax and unwind, and feast on the catch from those local fishing boats. During weekends the tempo changes with local musicians strum and sing to accompany the zest of a satisfied palate. Simply put, one will get hooked at the Fisherman's Wharf.
