Laranja is the multi-cuisine buffet speciality restaurant at Cidade de Goa. They layout buffets for breakfast, lunch and dinner. A typical buffet here is a meaty affair with items like Grilled Kingfish with hoisin sauce, Chicken Cafreal, Nargis Kofta Curry and Beef Goulash. Vegetarians have to make do with Vegetable au Gratin and some pastas, which are quite decent. Lunch consists of mostly gravy items. For breakfast, they offer Cornflakes with milk or honey, Aloo Paratha, eggs and so on. It's a good option for a buffet meal.

For treating someone with filling and multi cuisine buffet meals Laranja is the restaurant in the city that serves wonderful food in reasonable buffets. The meals cover dishes like Beef Goulash, Chicken Cafreal and seafood dishes that are my favorite. For me the lunch and dinner buffet of this restaurant is a global affair whereas in breakfast I really love the north Indian Parathas or egg items. Laranja is a place for proper complete meal at a rate which is reasonable and affordable.

I would hesitate to recommend this restaurant to any of my friends as we found it hugely over-priced for what it offers. Having only ever dined at the hotel's Alfama Restaurant and the Cafe Azul, the Cidad de Goa's Laranja restaurant came as a shock and a huge disappointment.
The best description of this restaurant would be that it was reminiscent of an office canteen. In fact, even the canteen at my office has a better ambience! Here's what we were faced with when we entered the room - packed with people, children running around - screaming, people talking loudly, diners wandering around aimlessly, cafeteria type tables and chairs with a buffet at one end. Absolutely no ambience, no intimacy, no class, definitely NOT what I would expect from the 4* Cidade de Goa Hotel! On reflection we'd probably have had a more enjoyable evening at the Ritz Classic in Panjim and at far less a cost.
Unfortunately we had made reservations and felt we could not just walk out at the last minute and be forced to try to find somewhere else to dine at short notice. My birthday celebration turned out to be a total washout and not one that I will repeat at the Cidade. The only saving grace of the day was the chocolate cake from their Patisserie - Docaria, which was absolutely divine!
As far as the food is concerned, there is a huge variety of different dishes on offer, however, the variety is almost too vast. The taste is okay, nothing to complain, but not really anything fantastically great either.
Even though there is such a huge array a diner can only really savour a limited amount of food, therefore the price charged is far too expensive for what you actually eat. It would be more advisable to reduce both the price of the buffet and the variety to a more reasonable level. This will prevent wastage of food since people will naturally try to get their money's worth and pile high but be unable to finish the serving!
