Sheela Restaurant cum Bar is a modest restaurant that has stood the test of time running with an enviable distinction of being a 'locals favourite' for the past 25 years. There's nothing ostentatious about the place but the deck overlooks the scenic beauty of the river. Sylvester D'Souza, is the proprietor's son and all around there is a buzz of activity. Waiters scurry around with thalis, the local lunch favourite. Father Nicolua D'Souza a tailor by profession started this venture 25 years ago, and the original food served was this very same thali then priced at Rs 3.50p. today although it is still priced at a little more than ten times the amount it seemed to be a hot favourite. Mother Luize Marie is at the helm of the kitchen and the Raechade Masala is famous as is the Stuffed Crabs and Prawn Curry, Rawa Fried Prawns, Chonak Raechade Masala and Fried Bombay Duck (when in season). For the main course try the Ukde Sheet, Prawn Curry and Beans Foogath. There are other meats listed on the menu too. A special chicken preparation made by Luize with a three masala flavour. It is an excellent preparation to have with drinks. But it is strongly recommended that one phones in for the order if in a hurry because the food is prepared a la minute. Don’t blame them when the view out there is so spectacular, especially in the night when the church across on the island is lit and its reflection is mirrored in the water. After the 25th anniversary, don't be surprised if they celebrate another 25 more. Check out this modest place, the beauty beckons all day, all night.
