Awarded as a heritage hotel by the AP government, Taj Mahal Hotel has been around since six-and-a-half decades in Abids. It’s the only restaurant, which has large-sized family, AC and non-AC sections, like in the days of yore, has a tidy ambience, sans frills. Most popular meals are the South Indian tiffins in the morning beginning 7am. The Masala Dosa, idlis, vada, pongal, uttapam, upma are always well done. The bestseller here is the Button Idli which is bite-sized idlis dunked in a bowl of Sambhar, ditto with the South Indian Filter Coffee. On the menu, besides South Indian Tiffins and meals (South Indian Thali priced at `175) is North Indian, including the Taj Mahal Special Thali (`195), Chhole Bhature, and also a bit of Chinese. A good place to stop by for an economical and satisfying bite if you are in the bustling zone of Abids!

My friend had her engagement party at Taj Mahal. The place was really beautiful and elegant. I love the ambiance. It was all very cheerful and nice. The food was great too. It was buffet and I had all South-Indian. Mysore Masala Dosa, Steamed Idli and Uttapam were cooked accurately and were amazing in taste. Sambhar and coconut chutney were delectable too. It was all really nice. Service staffs were well-mannered, helpful and friendly. They were way too polite as well.
