This is one restaurant which takes constructive criticism in the right spirit and we are proud to report that after our rather scathing review last year, Sigree has effected definite improvements in the culinary department, and brownie points for that. The Mastava Shorba, (lamb broth spiked with ginger, pepper and cardamom), for instance, tastes like the full bodied real stuff. For vegetarian starters, Dilliwali Tikki remains a fave, and so does Paneer Rawalpindi. Meat lovers would do well to order Mahi Kalimirch (betki fish fillet in a curd and black pepper marinade, succulent!), Bhatti Kebab (chicken kebabs in a minty chutney marinade), Raan-e-Sigree (leg of lamb grilled in a charcoal tandoor) or the more popular Galouti Kebabs. For main courses, besides the Dal Sigree and Hing Aloo, one can opt for Kareli Rogan Josh, or the Dhania Murgh. In the breads basket, besides the kulchas, rotis, parathas, the Olive Chilli Naan is innovative and so is the wholewheat Naan made with bran flour, which makes for a crunchy accompaniment. Biryani lovers could order the Zaffrani Chilman Biryani. Desserts are of the Kulfi, Malpua and Rabri kind, but if one is lucky and in season, the Natun Gurer Ice Cream is an absolute gem, with the deep flavour of date palm jaggery giving it a creamy chilled rabdi feel!
