Synopsis

Mumbai police commissioner announces the city has been cleansed of Bhais (local gangsters). But, Surya (Jeet) has other plans. He plans to fill up the vacuum and starts spreading his tentacles in Mumbai's underbelly.

Critic's Review

As SRK pays a musical tribute to 'Thalaiva' Rajinikanth in Chennai Express, can Jeet's admirers be far behind in eulogizing their boss - 'Made in Kolkata'? Choreographer-turned-director Baba Yadav leaves no stone unturned for the perfect potboiler - fantastic picturization of songs in beautiful locales, right dose of action, a few funny dialogues.

But is there enough mirchi in the form of drama? The film's pace is a major problem as it never gains momentum. The audience keeps waiting for a real twist in the plot, but sadly, the story seems too bland for a gripping entertainer.

Surya (Jeet) is determined to become a mafia don. On arriving in Mumbai, he sets his target - to graduate from being a local hooligan to a dreaded don who's a businessman and a kingmaker. He wants to stir up a storm in Delhi's political circles. Surya aims at bringing together the country's criminals under one big umbrella. He confesses to the commissioner, "I don't need money. I want power".

Surya's first move is to woo Rusha ( Subhashree), daughter of the police commissioner ( Chiranjeet). He pretends to be in love with her, so that he can use her to his advantage. He also befriends opposition leader GopinathShivalkar (SupriyoDutta) and helps him become the new mayor, defeating the ruling party candidate, ArunGokhle (BiswajitChakraborty). In doing so, Surya invites the wrath of the party's senior politician, RajshekharSinha (RajatavaDutta), who is now after his blood.Jeet looks slim and fit. He can dance, fight and emote as well. His performance - as a shrewd and confident guy, who couldn't care less about scruples in life - is worthy of mention. Though Subhashree adds to the glamour quotient, she disappoints in the acting department. She looks fabulous in smart off-shoulder tops but her chemistry with Jeet is non-existent. Our hero's one-liner seems quite pertinent here: "Raja thakle tar raniketohthakteihobe". Veteran actor Chiranjeet is effective as the police commissioner. Rajatava, Supriyo and Biswajit do their bit as crooked politicians - nothing we haven't seen before.

Boss - the remake of the Telugu film, Businessman - is a sleek production. Baba has played to the gallery keeping Jeet in mind. But a dull storyline and a weak script ruin the show. Too many characters create confusion. The songs fail to impress and the lyrics are not up to the mark. But cut out the nitpicking and nothing should stop Jeet fans from joining their favourite star in action.

Populism index is on the up. Corruption index is skyrocketing. Unaccountability index is high up nowhere in sight. These are the growth hallmarks of the UPA government. The people of the country are at pains to understand why they have to undergo such hardship to sustain the political ambitions of the government. But they have decided to fight back. They have given up on this corrupt and inefficient government and only see hope and growth in 2014 with Namo.
