In the beginning there was Prometheus, the titan of Greek mythology who wanted to give equal footing to mankind. In the beginning there was also Ridley Scott's Alien (1979) - a movie that completely rewrote the alien versus human, woman to be precise, equation. And in the future, 2089, there is Ridley Scott playing Prometheus (the titan) in Prometheus (the movie). How? The director's quest for scientific knowledge leaves you with ideas and questions unexplained since the birth of humanity: Where do we come from? They made us but who made them? What is our purpose? What happens after we die? Is it okay to discount Darwin's theory of evolution? So on and so forth, as the scientific exploration vessel named Prometheus takes a group of scientists to a planet away from Earth... where ancient mythology, ancient language, extra terrestrial forms, unusual atmosphere, weird creatures... set the tone for a typical Scott-ian treat. In other words, the special effects are rather cutting edge. There are great sets, good shots, state-of-the art tech and gadgets, battle of the galactic space ships and some jaw-dropping, larger-than-life special effects. Case in point, the automated Cesarean operation where a little alien is pulled out from the human body, while the later is immediately stapled to perfection. Clap!
As for the space explorers on the mission, the list includes some of Hollywood's finest names right from Charlize Theron as the no-nonsense woman on board, to David (Michael Fassbender) as the convincing android and the ageing power broker, Peter Weyland ( Guy Pearce). However, the one standing tall is Noomi Rapace (Elizabeth Shaw) who has her priorities -- religion versus science -- in place while she is out getting answers to phenomena unexplained. So what if she does not have the muscular frame and steely nerves of Alien's Riley (Remember Sigourney Weaver?); Elizabeth's willpower grows with every situation as she finally stands up to a cannibalistic alien force. Clap! Clap!
So all you sci-fi fans (and more importantly, fans of the original Alien movie), Prometheus is an intellectual scientific adventure of epic grandeur. In fact, make sure you indulge in a more-than-one-time-viewing of the movie to get the idea bang on.
The film however does get bogged down a bit by its meandering scenes which tend to distract, followed by the oh-so-many important questions ever asked by mankind... that are never really answered. Not done, since the one actually posing it here is the creator of cult classics like Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator...

The movie can be somehow compared similar to the original Alien vs. Predator movie. The storyline is excellent, animation is stunning. The movie is more modern in it context. Hope to see what happens next to the main character.

Well may not be one of the best sci-fi movies but it is still a Ridley Scott movie...Graphics were amazing and story was good too though some answers were left open!

Scott shouldn't try to do a Cameron. He should stick to what he is best at. The film doesn't even come close to making it to the list of sci-fi cult classics like 2001 or alien or even a predator. This is ultimately a film about search for god, presuming there is one, and of course brainless scientists...

For me Prometheus was more of a distant cousin to 'Alien' specially stuff like those elongated eggs and some deformed and octopus skin like slimy creatures reminding you of the face huggers. Watching Alien was like watching a real time exploration and yet visceral. Prometheus did show us that Scott is best in sci-fi genre although this one does not match up to Blade Runner or Alien. It's a mind bender towards the end and just makes one a bit uncomfortable too. I liked the movie personally because it dared telling a story on pretty much the same track with exceptional haunting score. For people it did not work that well coz it was too burdened with expectations and as i was reading somewhere that audiences wanted this to be connected to Alien as a prequel. My advice if u liked Alien and loved Mr Scott as a film maker you would like this too.

I watched this movie recently, I would say that it is a slow paced movie, with great visual effects. Robotic surgery is the coolest thing in the movie. The story line creates a lot of questions in our mind which is disappointing but then it also increases the expectation of sequel. Hope the sequel answers all the questions.

To tell you the truth about the movie, it's a hotch-potch of many things which would confuse you to the core. It revolves around an assumption that our ancestors, who created us, are living in some other distant planet (wow!) and a privatised company sends a group of volunteer explorers to find them. What goes on after they reach the unknown planet is something beyond the understanding of even scientists, I guess. A human clone robot (Guy Pierce) is the only one to watch, while the aliens look more like a mix breed of cobras and octopuses. The story is handicapped totally. Until the last 20 minutes, you wont even understand what is going on (I dont think that is a suspense, wasn't for me). And alike all other sci-fi alien adventure movies, this also ends with only 1 survivor out of the 17 people who went to the exploration plus the 4-5 or so aliens and the story ends with an ongoing quest of the protagonist who is still finding some answers while a freaky-yucky and ugly alien creature is born (who is angry on something even he doesn't know), making us fear that maybe a sequel is in store. Well, for me, Ridley Scott's attempt was not up to the mark at all, it was a sheer disappointment. And for all alike me who wanna know what Prometheus means, well, its a name of the spaceship they travel in and totally, doesnt make sense. Don't watch it if you can resist the temptation that the posters have created.

I definitely dont have the time or the patience to read the review above , especially after watching this MOST PATHETIC MOVIE!! My only question to the reviewer based on the 4 stars given to it is ... DID YOU REALLY WATCH IT ? I am watch !!! did you understand the movie ? Just because its hollywood movie that made some movie or because it had grand openeing? ( please understand people go to watch movie in the first week , is to know whats in there and not because the movie is great !!! ) .. I know people were waiting to watch this movie ..I was one fool who watched it ! That doesnt mean it was good!!!!

Ridley Scot is it really you.. One cannot expect this from a genius who made Alien, Gladiator, Hannibal, Kingdom of Heaven, Black Hawk Down , American Gangster & Robinhood .. How could you let someone convince you to make a fool of yourself. Its just a rehash of Alien Series into Prometheus.. Only Michael Fassbender as David the Android, Charlize Theron as Meredith Vickers and Noomi Rapace as Elizabeth Shaw excel in their roles.. A one time watch if you have time and money..

Ever since the dawn of man he has the some questions that nobody has answered. I believe if it wasn't for curiosity we would still be living in stone age or running around in skirts. Darwin's theory of evolution fails to explain why there is a genetic difference between Ape and human. How come we evolved and became human but they didn't over the thousands of years. That idea leads us to an intriguing question : Was our evolution kickstarted by Aliens? or Are we aliens? Or we're just a lab rats?. We only know the 5% of human DNA, when the rest is known to us great mysteries will be answered. Prometheus was an Alien who started life on this planet. Not necessary this planet, could be any planet. . When the scientists finds out the wall paintings, they think of it as an invitation. little did they know, it was a planet full of mass destruction. Then you would ask then why did they want us to come there in the first place, why do they wanna kill us? The answer to that question is few more questions. 1. How do we know it's an invitation? Just because it points to that planet doesn't mean it's an invitation. 2. Lets say it's a challenge to mankind: like, okay first come find us here and then we'll tell you the secrets. May be at the time the wall paintings were made that planet used to be alien's home but now it is completely different. that black goo took over the planet and they abandoned it. 3. Why do they wanna kill us? Well, what would you do if you make something and over the years it gets violent and starts killing each other of their own kind? Wouldn't you say "Okay, it was fun while it lasted. now they're misbehaving and let's teach them a lesson." 4. If they made us then who made them? Well that needs a sequel. I would love to watch this movie 10 times more atleast. It's not a mediocre aliens movie where they come attack us and the Hero who was abandoned by his wife for a rich guy and has a daughter to feed kills them all eventually while the rest of the world is watching it on TV as it happens. This movie doesn't answer any questions and I am glad it didn't. Everybody can make their own interpretation. It's a movie that asks you to wonder about your origin and purpose in this life and where do we go after we die? First they said the earth was flat and then they said earth is round. Well what if theory of evolution is wrong and we're not alone? Just a question that you may ask to you whenever you look at the starry sky and wonder If you would meet your maker.

Darwin's theory of evolution fails to explain why there is a genetic difference between Ape and human. It very well perfectly does, it would be nice to admit you are not aware of teh scientific proof than spreading un-scientific rumours. Well what if theory of evolution is wrong and we're not alone? You are confused about what you are trying to ask. There is enough evidence to support Darwin's Theory and "we being alone or not" has nothing to do with Darwin's theory. Overall, the movie was un-scientific and bordering on religious opinions. Good sci-fi movies come from scientific extrapolation and scientific know-hows. This movie could very well pass as a badly written hindi movie without a lot of research put into it, or cared for. It is largely a "this is how I think it should be personal opinion" movie and is average. Good special effects, bad story.

I simply don't get it - they are out looking for the creator of evolution and end up showing how the baby alien got created which is the prequel to the movie Aliens, which by the way was much better than this nonsense. I went to the movie for a powerful story but ended up watching a slow paced, out of the planet, wandering spaceship getting killed by snake like creatures which is so two decades old. The crew of Prometheus sacrificing themselves was so lame and so was the wasted Charlize Theron. If you want graphics or 3D, go see Avatar once again or watch those documentaries made for IMAX 3D. The only thing worthwhile in the movie, was the 5 minute robotic surgery which I would say was atleast some value for your money. I used to be a big Hollywood movie buff but lately I keep getting disappointed repeatedly.

Apart from the ending scene, we can't much co- relate Prometheus with Alien series. I have to watch it again to understand it better (should have paid more attention:). So am left with more questions:) Loved the visuals. Good for Sci-Fi fans.

Went to theater with such great expectations, got back quiet disappointed with the shabby, rather a very simple story line and such waste of character in the movie. Dont know why the director kills off david so abruptly, and he could have used the alien baby which shaw aborts in a more meaning full way like helping shaw with her next expedition rather than keeping that robot guy alive :)

Prometheus is a once in a lifetime movie. It's a must watch for all. The special effects are mind blowing and leaves you spellbound.Hats off once again to Ridley Scott for making yet another masterpiece.

I watched the premier show yesterday.. had too many expectations from the movie.. bad really sad.. there are hardly any scenes which would captivate u completely.. hardly any action sequences.. overall I would not rate this movie more then 2. Again its my personal opinion.. But people who are looking for action please do not waste money on this movie.. especially the complete 1st half is so boring and dry..

give me a break.. if u njoyd the movie well good enough.. there was nothing in the movie to not understand.. the only thing was some hi tech gadgets and exceptional scenes like the automated delivery of the actress... i dont think in terms of scifi when we talk about the movie ranges anywhere close to matrix which is so entertaining..
