Although Banchharam is synonymous with delightful Bengali, fried, brown, melt-in-the-mouth mishtis like Pantua, Chitrakoot and Langcha (these come in 3-4 sizes with price variants), they have made a name for themselves in other mithais and savouries as well. Their Lal Mishti Doi and sandeshes like the Notun Gurer Sandesh (a winter speciality), Lotus Sandesh, Jolbhora Sandesh, Malai Sandesh, and the Patishapta and Malpua are all yummy and fly off the shelf rather quickly. Their Paneer Roll, Bread Chop, Shingara, Vegetable Chop and home-style Bengali paratha made in ghee along with Aloo Dum are also equally popular. With several branches in the city, Banchharam’s goodies are within easy reach.

The collection of sweets are good but lacks variety versus Balaram Mullick. Usual Bengali sweets such as Sandesh, Rashogolla (Rasgulla), Soan-papri etc. are available here. Chocolate mishti is also to be seen here. In snacks portion, there is the typical stuff that you would find in most sweet shop. Vegetable Chop and Parantha with Aloo are some worth trying snacks if you want. The store also has mishti doi and tok doi available

I was not brought up in Calcutta, but I am well aware of Banchharams sweets. Their misti doi and abar khabo sandesh are delicious. During our stay in Calcutta, we frequently visit their Lake Market store to buy as much sweets from them as possible, since good quality sweets like Banchharams, is missed where I live. I wish they could open a store in Nagpur so all Probashi Bengalis like us would not miss their tasty Bengali sweets so much.

If I think of Bengali mishti - its always Banchharam!! I absolutely adore their sweets - the quality is just fantastic - mishti doi, kaju barfi, pure ghee laddu, pantua, rasgulla and the list goes on and on! Although I mostly am fond of their bengali parota with aloo sabzi - there is just one word to describe it - super!!
