There have been changes at the helm of things at the multicuisine diner at the lifestyle mall in New Town. "News" has the most fascinating setting for a lazy winter weekend, so when the place sported a fresh coat of paint and rejuvenated menu we head straight up for a chilled out Sunday brunch with our sunglasses, hats and favourite bestseller.

Decor
It is the openness of the restaurant that always attracts me. An intimate Mediterranean feel, a shimmering stretch, colour coded in nautical stripes of white and blue. Ceiling height glass fasade, spacious lounge interiors, white wooden deck chairs and ribbed tables. A slightly raised semi circular display bar space with tinkling of mocktail glasses. What is missing are the sunbathing ladies, waterfront charm and feel of the marina. Instead we just order and enjoy the privacy pouring into your paperback on the sunny sofas.

Food
The menu has more to offer than just the cuisine. The glossy newsletter-finish menu includes food facts and interesting snippets like: the Accidental invention of the sandwich and the potato chips, the origin of kebabs, sophistication of perching a fan of lemon on a prawn cocktail glass and many more. Keeping the mood for a brunch, we order mainly from the international fare, skipping a complete Indian and Oriental selection. We start with the classic Cream of Mushroom soup (Rs.95), Cheesy Baked Eggs (Rs.99), Roesti style Potato Stacks with Cheesy Paprika Dip (Rs.179) and go on to order mains of Tenderloin Steak (Rs.299), Moroccan style Harissa Lamb (Rs. 335) and a Spaghetti Aglio Olio (Rs.189).

Plus & Minus
These stand alone food experiments always excite me. Ever since my last visit to this restaurant a couple of years back and then my first bite of the Cheesy Baked eggs, It had been rather keen to try more of their fare. Our meal begins with the smooth, velvety and at perfect temperature Cream of Mushroom soup. The Cheesy Baked Eggs come as a perfectly creamy, golden brown top with sliced eggs glistening like precious jewels. They taste of heaven: Faintly warm, cream cheesy, subtlety salty with an intensity that only comes from a fresh bake. The Swiss Potato stack or Roesti is a delightful balance of crisp and soft, with the delicate sweetness of potatoes swept off with cheesy paprika dip. The medium rare, rested Tenderloin is a faultless piece deliciously firm on the outside, moist and tender within, enhanced by the earthiness of the sticky jus. However, the Morrocan Harrisa definitely needed more preparation time – since the lamb chunks came not-spiced-up enough on a bed of steamed rice and also we have had better Spaghetti Alio Olio elsewhere. We wrap up an afternoon of fun and lazing with the pep of cleverly encased silky chocolate Mud Pie (Rs.125) served with a dollop of Vanilla ice cream.

Very Good Ambiance. and thats the only Good in this restaurant. I ordered Pork Pasta with white sauce and they just gave me just plain pasta with very few grated bacon on the top, and no pork inside the pasta :X it taste below average, quantity is low, you need to order 2 plates to get full stomach, nothing special at all and it cost me 330 INR. Are you fucking kidding me :X that low quality, low quantity pasta never deserved a price tag of 330 INR . even not so posh restaurants 80 / 100 INR Pasta is much better taste then this low quality food. totally not recommended. never going to there again .

All covered with glass and wooden chairs and tables with all white, News is one place I love visiting occasionally. They have a long menu but out of everything Stirred Chicken, Chicken Tawa and Silken Tofu with Asparagus and Broccoli are my favorites. Another thing is Cheesy Baked Eggs, I just love having them. The service of the place is great too. Waiters are prompt and modest.
