The story line is about three friends. Depending on their nature they have pet names. 'Chaku' (knife) has is own garage, 'Pustak' (book) is a professor and 'Makad' ( monkey) is working for a news channel. 'Chaku' loves a girl. To introduce his lady love 'Pencil' to his friends, 'Chaku' invites her to his house. When she comes home, even Chaku's friend 'Pustak' falls in love with her. How this leads to hilarious situation which creates tension between 'Pustak' and 'Chaku' is shown beautifully by the writer. The writer has explained the bond developed between these four characters logically. Good story and perfect dialogues in 'Badam Rani.' makes a winning combination.
The movie is based on Marathi play 'Makdachya Haati Champagne' by writer Dr.Vivek Bele. All his plays are known for their strong story lines and superb casting, direction or even settings. So when you a change a medium from stage to big screen, the main aim should be to convey the story more powerfully. Director Satish Rajwade has already proved his mettle through movies like 'Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai', 'Mrugajal' and 'Gair', so when these talented two people come together, audience expectations are more, but here Dr.Bele's writing is more commanding than the direction and the acting.
The cast of the movie has contributed tremendously in making these dialogues more effective. Upendra Limaye (Chaku), Pushkar Shotri (Pustak), Anand Ingle (Makad) and Mukta Barve (Pencil) have done a fantastic job. 'Chaku' and 'Pustak' has fixed graph but 'Makad' and 'Pencil' characters have shown variations. Mukta has shown 'Pencil's' bold attitude flawlessly but Anand Ingle who plays 'Makad' is the winner! Juggling between two friends while trying to keep both of them happy, Anand has done a terrific job with his comic timings. Compared to acting the music score of the movie is not up to the mark. Director Satish Rajwade knows how to handle various subjects and does perfect justice in taking Dr.Bele's writing to the audience. The movie is fast spaced and doesn't get boring, and the credit goes to Satish.
You can taste this 'Champagne' but it doesn't taste different than the original play!

A nice story of triangular love. It is very interesting about the symbolic pet names in the movie, which itself reflects ones character in the movie. Beautiful movie !

Hopeless. - Dokyaalaa Shot-- In a true Sense The second half of this movie has been screwed up big time. Sorry!!! you wanting me to mind my language.... Just keep your cool... check out the language in the film you shall find my language to be far more decent. The writer seems to have lost it big time-- or perhaps the director took it casually. Unexpected after watching films like Mumbai Pune Mumbai and Kaaksparsha

What is the connection here of Kaaksparsh.Satish Rajwade don't have any contribution in that. Regarding the comment on writer he is the owner of the original story and the play based on his story was big hit Marathi Drama. There is no weightage in your critic comment.

Nice to read your comment. However, I have expressed my opinion in my right. Actually speaking I and my family were depressed after watching this movie. Our expectations were thrashed. By the way there is a huge difference in Satge and Movies. So success of a story on stage does not gaurantee success in films. Anyway, a humble request that my comments may be looked at in a positive spirit, as a feedback to the Marathi film makers. In case any one is not convinced, stay happy with the way things are.
