Virthal Kamat’s hotel offers a weekend of fun for those living in North Mumbai. Step into the welcoming, well-lit, elegant, marbled lobby and then take the bubble lift into an area that looks like a covered swimming pool with seating around it. All the usual à la carte suspects are there, from Chicken/Veg Tikka Masala to Mutton Rogan Josh and even Fish ’n’ Chilli. You have mousse and souffle in addition to the usual desserts. But the buffets, at the heart of it all, are what draw people in. They feature live cooking counters (world grills, chaat masti, pasta, sandwiches, kebab khazana; non-veg and veg options) for lunch (Rs. 425+; Children Rs. 350+) and dinner (Rs. 625+; Children Rs. 450+). Sunday Brunches (Rs. 600; children Rs. 450) are accompanied with pool games, a magic show, tattoo artist and live DJ music. South Indian breakfast fare (Idli, Dosa, Medu Vada) to sausages, ham, Baked Beans and even an eggs-to-order station! There are live counters as at all buffets, but additional ones that offer fun foods for children and sandwiches too. The spread is generous, but you get standard Oriental, European/Global and Indian fare.
