Leela’s dependable and dinner-only Jamavar is an ole’ faithful for close to a decade now — great-tasting North and South Indian fare served in a contemporary, pleasingly done up space! The soft lighting and mellow music provide an intimate and relaxed setting. The décor is modern with traditional Indian elements. Hand-carved wooden screens, decorative Indian motif embroidered in gold-thread artwork on the walls, flower laden urli with floating candles, silver cutlery and crockery complete the ambience. Raan e Jamavar (whole succulent leg of lamb, cooked in the tandoor) and Dal Jamavar (black lentils simmered slowly overnight) are Chef Surendra Mohan’s stars here. Sublimely stimulating Nihari Gosht, Nalli Chaanp, Biryani with Burrahni Raita and a perfectly done Ulte Tawe ka Paratha too. Ask for his melt-in-the-mouth Galouti Kebab and the succulent Raan-e-Jamavar. Tawa Jhinga or Royal Vepudu, spiced Crab Meat Broth and Nandu Rasam are vibrantly spiced and superbly cooked. Chicken Chettinad and Alleppey Fish Curry are quite good too. Vegetarians have a good choice too. Ask for the Palak ke Hussan, Gucchi Makai Mushroom and Mirch ka Salan. Khubani ka Meetha and Phirni make for a memorable finale. A great destination for special occasions, it is quite the magnet for visiting foreigners too.
