Here it is. India's biggest Chinese restaurant chain, Mainland China which is now spanning Mumbai. The flagship branch located in Saki Naka (the last place you'd go for an authentic Chinese meal!) set up more than 13 years ago continues to be my favourite. The Andheri branch is the most swanky of them all. Here, warm, wooden, gold-and-earth tones, dull gold leaf, wine racks, wooden lamps and antique screens weave a comfy ambience. Kudos to Chef Rajesh Dubey for using fresh ingredients, for deftly orchestrating the flavours of Spicy Schezwan, for doing full justice to the subtle and bland Cantonese, for the robust Hunan gravies and also for some inventive Fukien food. Go for the ever-popular dim sums, and other old favourites like Garlic Steamed Prawns; Chicken with Assorted Peppers; Ginger Drunken Chicken in Shaoxiang Wine; Barbecued Chicken With Mantao Buns; and Sliced Lamb with Cumin and Onion. Stir-fried Fish with Chilli and Soya, and Stir-fried Shrimp with Sambol Sauce are hits here. Veggies rejoice, there is plenty for you (Stir-fried Broccoli with Fragrant Garlic, Crispy Veg Beijing Style, Sizzling Eggplant and more). They've recently added a new separate section in the menu called ”Stir-fried” (healthier option; less oily and with min spices).
