I'm convinced that the centre of gravity has moved to North Mumbai. Sorry fellow, South Mumbaikers but our part of the world is geriatric and sleepy compared to the energy, action, restaurants (and ofcourse not to forget the traffic snarlups.) Over the years, thanks to my continuous and constant research (read eating ) trips Ive gotten addicted to Andheri and bonded with Bandra. Last week I ate at the two month old Kazan which is tucked right next to Hometown Cafe and Bora Bora ( same owner). Heres my Kazan ki kahani …A flight of stairs brings you upto a large ornate, gold and copper hued hall plastered with paintings, wooden trellis screens and tiny red chandeliers casting a red glow. Lustily spiced fare here. Be it the flavorsome Laal maas and Rogan josh with succulent pieces of mutton or the masaledar chicken begum bahar. Plump, soft paneer , well made biryani and crisp rotis too. The melt in the mouth, galoti kababs (originally created for the toothless nawab) were worth trying too. It was the tasteless jaituni mushrooms which disappointed as did the overspiced Hyderabadi biryani served with salan and raita. The Raan, touted as a house specialty was somewhat stringy. And happily the creamy Mango rabdi and warm, spongy gulab jamuns were a fitting finale.
It's the VFM lunch buffet (Rs 545) with a spread of over a dozen non vegetarian and vegetarian dishes and kababs (served on the table) which is a must try. It also includes Chaat and salads ( limp ones, pasta salad etc) and we had a superb moong dal halwa too. While some of the dishes are patchy (and not authentic Hyderabadi or Lucknavi) , most are tasty, well -spiced and well priced too. Generously portioned, masaledar, robust North Indian fare in a comfy, well-airconditioned ambiance. A must-try VFM lunch buffet too.
P.S. Do we really need to nitpick about the inappropriate Russian city name? or the over the top mixed up decor?

The place does not just offer a lavish lunch spread with some amazing delicacies like galoti kebabs, paneer and biryani, but has a great ambiance too. Would love coming back here again.

I liked the non-veg stuff they serve rather than the veg, as the spices are more aptly done in non-veg food items. I could taste the scrumptious rogan josh and I could still feel the taste of the juicy mutton piece. On the other hand, the mushrooms disappointed me. I liked the gulaabjamun the most.
