Cheery and casual at lunchtime, romantic and sensuous at dinner, the glass walls peel away to let in the sky above and the Mumbai seascape below. Go to this glamorous, rooftop Middle-Eastern restaurant of the Taj for authentic dishes from the legendary food capitals of the Mediterranean and the Middle East. In this nine-year-old restaurant, Syrian and Turkish chefs (under grand chef Hemant Oberoi's eagle eye) spin magic. As the book goes to press, I visit Souk, only to find that Chef Masuk Piral has introduced a brand-new menu. Plenty of vegetarian options... Lubia bi Zayt (sauteed tender green beans), a refreshing (parsley and mint) Toros Salad, superb Walnut, Pistachio and Red Pepper Muhammara and Okra in Pinenut Sauce are recommended. Non vegetarians must ask for the Smoked Wheat and Minced Lamb Alanya Kebab, the outstanding chargrilled Lamb Loin flambeed at the table and the chargrilled basa fish Samak Meshwi. The evergreen favourite Kolokithi (zucchini and eggplant chips), Turkish Hummus, Shish Taouk, Samaki Makli (pan-fried fish), Baklava, Rose Petal Ice Cream and Bastilla au Lait (a superb puff pastry, layered with cream) are as good as ever. P.S. Daylight bathes the glass-walled restaurant and my most favourite lunchtime meal is the Mezze Buffet (Rs.1,350), a lavishly satisfying meal. Feeling romantic and extravagant? Chef Hemant Oberoi has Casablanca waiting for you right here on the rooftop. It is a secluded private dining area for two. Casablanca serves an exotic seven-course Middle Eastern menu in elegant tableware (Versace, etc.) and the chefs who prepare these creations bring them to the table. The menus start at Rs.25,000.

Souk’s casual, informal ambience is very addictive for me and so I often land up in this restaurant with my friends from office. The menu is also an incentive of coming to this restaurant. The Mediterranean and Turkish food of this restaurant are must haves and in them I would love to recommend Shish Taouk, Mezze Buffet and my all time favorite Humus. Souk is little expensive but that seems fine considering the food and the staff service.

Experience was very nice as ambiance was better than many other comparable restaurants. Souk is at the rooftop of the Taj Tower and has a great views. The decor is kind of modern minimalist and the service is alright.

Very nice ambience, Souk is at the rooftop of the Taj Tower and has a great views and the service was a bit slow . As for food they had a wide spread of mediterranean cuisine. We ordered
Turkish Hummus, Shish Taouk and Pan-fired Fish and they were yummy and on top of it all rose petal Ice Cream was a treat. Overall it was a good experience.
