Marbonite interiors, brown rexine chairs and mica tabletops make up the decor. Spending an evening with the boys, and where drinking till late is the norm, is the reason for frequenting Raj. How about some Chicken 96? Though a starter item on the menu at this pub-like restobar in Chembur, the delicious dry green gravy on the well-fried chicken pieces paired with a thin Butter Naan makes for an excellent meal. Chicken Lal Pari is the other favourite with rotis and naans. For the main course, try Mutton Dum Biryani, served in typical dum-phukt style. The Raj Biryani comes with tender mutton pieces and wholesome aromatic spices which you can smell and taste clearly, making it a biryani as a biryani should be - dry. Dal Khichdi for the veggies is highly recommended. A variation of the Dal Khichdi in Hong Kong style is popular among regular patrons as well. If you want to savour great food with the whole family, home delivery may be a better bet.

By chance I landed up in this casual place that has a well stocked bar and a menu that complements the drinks pretty well. I was with two friends and I eat Mutton Dum Biryani here, it was tasty and the mutton pieces were big in size and soft. It’s a very casual restobar and somewhat not all that bad.

Though the décor of Raj never turned me on, but food did that. When I went there for the first time I was little apprehensive in ordering the food, but I did and I must say they serve amazingly prepared food. Chicken 96 and Chicken Lal Pari are so delicious that you just can’t resist. Mutton Dum Biryani was good and was really flavorsome. The service was excellent too. Staff was polite, pleasant and quite welcoming. I would say Raj is a place that you can’t judge with its ambiance.
