Head in the direction of Chembur railway station is you are looking for authentic Kerala food. Hidden in one of the busy bylanes of Chembur station market, Udaya Lunch Home peeps out with an ornate facade announcing its heritage "since 1958". A no-frills restaurant with both non-AC and AC (family room) sections, the first impression is that of any other Udupi, just a little less crowded. The whiff of non-veg immediately puts your concerns to rest. Specializing in Kerala cuisine, with photographs of the backwaters collaged on the walls, Udaya serves a full fare of everything Kozhi! The Kozhi Varatharachadu or Chicken Gravy with the obvious coconut base and the Irachi Ishtew (stew) and Malabari Parotha or Appams to go with either are the top recommendations. Irachi Kootan, Fish Molly and Kallummakaya Masala are also a must-try. Chicken Sukka and Mutton Sukka are all-time favourites and you could try any of the fish fries for the starters. A very dry subtle Chicken, Mutton or Prawns Biryani cooked in Kerala-style seals the meal deal at this modest, simple and iconic eatery that has been serving and satisfying Kerala culinary cravings for more than fifty years.
