Dali Basu started her dance training, as a child, in Canada. She has been awarded fellowships by the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute twice, aided by which she studied under Odissi guru Aloka Paniker. She has performed Odissi in Canada, America, India and Malaysia. She is working on a research project with a fellowship awarded by the Ontario Arts Council, Chalmers Foundation. Basu will commence the recital with Manikya Veena, a mangalacharan composed by poet Kalidasa as an offering to Goddess Saraswati. This will be followed by a Sabhinaya Pallavi based on an Oriya song, Ajo sri ghoshtha chandrama by Sri Gopala Krishna. Basu will go on to perform a pallavi in Raga Mohona and an abhinaya item with the ashtapadi, Yahi Madhava, written by the 12th century poet Jayadev.
