Bollywood actor Sameer Dattani’s brand-new venture is less than a month old when I visit it. South Mumbai’s beer bar opens in Kala Ghoda. As the book goes to press, I pop into Cerveza which opens on top of Silk Route (which replaced the historic Wayside Inn). Loud music, backlit tables and a menu of 28 beers including two wheat beers (Hoegaarden and Schneider Weisse), four ales, two stouts (Guinness and Murphy’s Irish) and one type of fruit beer (Liefman’s), dry beer (Asahi) and farmhouse beer (Saison Dupont). The most expensive being Chimay (Rs. 910 for a 330ml) from Belgium. Impressive menu for the small dimly lit space full of loud music and a blaring TV set with tables along the sides of the bar. An orange mural of a world map that has facts about beer and quotes about drinking written across it. Beer cocktails too... try Snakebite. Chinese and Pan-Asian snacks from the restaurant below. It was empty when I visited it, but it was just a couple of weeks old and we hope the buzz will build up.
