Walk in to find an open-through-the-day, cheery, well-stocked deli-cum-bakery-cum cafe. This intriguiginly named new arrival on Juhu Tara road is already attracting a lot of attention. Take a seat on the casual raised level and check out the friendly owner Vishal Mehra’s range of home-style sandwiches, quiches, lasagne and more. On Vishal’s recommendation we tried the Bun Stuffed with a Chicken and Potato Cutlet, a wholesome and satisfying snack. The steeply priced sandwich (Rs. 225) with ham and grana padana cheese turns out to be justifiably so, as it is stuffed with imported ham and cheese. A tasty feta cheese in a wheat roll completes our check-out here. We are surprised to find that everyone who eats at this café within a store is served a complimentry dessert and juice. However, the brownie in a plastic box is not the greatest. But the shop is a great find. P.S. The glassed-in counter is stocked with frozen seafood and meat on the wooden shelves. 11 AM to 11 PM. In the blonde wooden shelves sit many an olive oil and asparagus bottle (I buy a few and am happily surprised to learn that they deliver everywhere in Mumbai). I ask, why the name "Freeman & Baker"? "Oh! I was a freeman till I got married," he says.
