Homestyle Tuscan flavours suffuse the new Italian menu of the dinner-only restaurant of the JW Marriott. Davide Canize from Tuscany takes over and as the book goes to press, I revisit this handsome restaurant. The wooden floor-lit bridge and bustling open kitchen of this contemporary, first-floored, three-levelled Italian restaurant is as spiffy as ever. For casual dining, opt for the wooden level, the carpeted one for a formal experience. Sit by the window for a stunning view of the garden and ocean or opt for the more cosy banquet seating. Hearty, wholesome Borlotti and Cannelloni Beans Soup, Pasta e Fagioli warms the heart. The new Italian chef’s meat-driven menu is a carnivore’s delight, be it the Fusilli Pasta with Italian dry-salted meat and onions, served with creamy sauce or the Risotto with Lamb Ragout and Globe Artichokes, Grilled Pork Spare Ribs, T-Bone Steak grilled at the moment (minimum two people), Grilled Sirloin or Rib Eye Steak. The ultimate platter of Grigliata Mista de Carne (assortment of Black Angus, Sirloin, Rib eye) is worth ordering. Grilled New Zealand Lamb Chops are worth trying. All grills are served with generous portions of potatoes and grilled vegetables. Generous use of cheese, be it Eggplant Parcels with Taleggio Cheese Fondue and Truffle Oil or their pizzas. End with the creamy and just right Tiramisu. The traditional Italian Mascarpone Cheese and Coffee Dessert is good too. Ask for the Mousse al Mascarpone e Mela con Miele al Tartufo a unique Mayer Lemon Cream Pudding with Walnut Biscuit and Olive Oil Cream accompanied by Strawberry and Rose Water jelly. Generous portions mark the new Italian chefs fare here, as do the meaty, homestyle Tuscan flavours. Go only if this is what you are looking for.

PS: They are open from 12.30pm to 4pm on Sundays for brunches.

Buzz: 2.5/5| Décor: 4/5

Sit at the long, bustling bar counter and knock back a few drinks at Mezzo Mezzo, which offers a variety of cocktails such as Apple and Raisin Mojito, JW House Tea, Purple Tang, Daze Bellini, Caipiroska, Sangrias, Cosmos, Martini, Maika, Caipirinha, Litchi Caipirinha, Carrot Lemonade, Flavoured Daiquiri, Aviation, Flavoured Margarita, Flight Cars, Flavoured Martini and Bubbly to name a few! Also try the Tignanello, Brunello, Barbaresco, Chianti, Barolo, Frascati and Prosecco. Go over the floor-lit bridge, past the bustling open kitchen and enter this large, contemporary, three-levelled Italian restaurant. Wood and natural stone are offset by sleek, black candles and fresh flowers. Check the Restaurant guide for more details.
