Superb Spanish surprises on the first floor of Andheri’s Svenska hotel. The famous Spanish artist, Miro’s sensibilities are reflected in the handsome décor and the creative yet traditional Spanish fare. Go up the lift into this unique grey, natural stone-floored, longish, handsome, wooden-ceilinged room, with an open, interactive kitchen (wood-fired oven et al) . The interiors of the show kitchen have a rustic, Spanish-village feel. I sit by the large picture window overlooking the city and bask in the warm glow of the candle light flames built into the walls. Top end Schott Zwiesel and Villeroy & Boch complement the selection of tapas, stone grille pinchos, organic salads, fidua, fabada, paellas and tagines, handcrafted pastas, wood-fired grills and gourmet wood-fired salad pizzas. The well-made complimentary dips on the table (Garlic Alio, Red Mojo Geen Pea Hummus) set the tone for Chef Rahul Bisht’s meal to come. Flavoursome Turkish Lamanchun Lamb Pizza pleases. Saucy Patata Bravas, mouthwatering Moussaka make for a memorable meal. Wind up with Creme Catalan and Chocolate Tartuffo. And don’t forget to request for the sommelier to take you through a wine journey, primarily of New World wines.rnP.S. Check out the Weekend Brunches (11.30am to 3.30pm; Rs.799).

For all that one may expect from Svesnka’s signature Mediterranean and Spanish cuisine restaurant, Miro definitely likes to be understated. The restaurant has a lounge section where the interiors are rather bland and a yellow-bricked live kitchen stands as the centerpiece where chefs meticulously work, preparing tapas and pinchos and other Spanish delights. The patatas brava, like all other tapas, was served with three dipping sauces and a potion of Spanish garlic bread making it a wholesome appetizer for two of my office colleagues and me. One of them had booked us a table through online website urbanrestro which also gave a decent discount apart from free table booking. The wood-burnt pizza was a good break from Domino’s and used a delicate tangy tomato sauce.
All in all a little expensive (thank god for the discount!) but a good experience.
