It is here, in this 70-year-old Matunga home of the most authentic Tamilian food that I filmed with Gordon Ramsay for his Channel 4 show on India. We picked this as the finest in its category. It was also Raj Kapoor's favourite! And it continues to draw regulars with its consistent quality. On Sundays for Pongal Avial Bhaath and on all days for your Idli-Dosa fix, you must visit this small, two-floored, white-coloured cafe. Savour the Idli with home-made butter and Malgapudi (more popularly known as as gun powder), or eat your way through delectable Ulundu Dosa and Pesarattu Dosa, all accompanied with hearty, spicy Sambhar (yes, it's unsweetened) made with the perfect Podi. Upma with Malgapudi served on top is available too. On the occasional morning, they make a tasty Raghi Sevai. Rasam Vada, Kadi Vada and Neer Dosa are just as famous as the Misal, and Dahi Misal (what can we say? So much is famous here!). Paan Poli fans come here on Fri/Sat. Dahi Bhaath, and Bisibelebhaath are served daily. Malad residents, a Rs 60-thali awaits you. Lemon Bhaath Pulioderai on alternate days. P.S. Ask for seasonal adais when you visit. Appam and Stew available on weekday evenings only after 6.30pm. The Ulundu (urad dal dosa), Tuppa Onion Dosa and the Ragi Dosa (finger millet dosa) get my vote. Must pick up their coffee powder as well as the decoction coffee-maker, along with snacks and podis from their counter.

I am a fan of the Tamilian food that they serve at Cafe Madras. There are a number of people who have told me about this place and trust me every word that has been told about it is true.
The idlis are butter coated and served with gun powder chutney. The taste the Ulundu Dosa or for that matter any other dosa keeps me calling back to this place. Cafe Madras is a must visit for everyone in Mumbai.

I can go to caf‚ Madras again, and again, and still not find any faults. The food here is heavenly. The best, crispiest medu vada sambhar, and my all time favourite raagi dosa.
