With two new branches popping up in Ghatkopar's R-City and Kurla's Market City malls, there's simply no denying the popularity the Rajdhani thali continues to enjoy, but lately, it seems to have lost a bit of its thali lustre. On my last visit, Bhaat, Dal, Rotli and Shaak were average and the vegetables greasy, but the sweet Gujarati Kadhi was memorably flavoursome. Still, the crowds pour in for the 72 rotating menus listing hundreds of delicacies from Gujarat and Rajasthan on gleaming thalis that offer four vegetables, three sweets, three dals, two farsaans, phulka, rice, kadhi, khichdi or pulao, pickle, papad, chutney and even occasional seasonal surprises in addition to Saada Chhaas. All this for Rs. 289 (lunch) and Rs. 341 (dinner) on weekdays and Rs. 341 on weekends (lunch and dinner) when special sweets are also on offer.rnrn

Food is great. No doubts about that but when the service is so pathetic it is all in vain. Last week we visited Nirmal Lifestyle outlet and ruined our day. The AC doesn't work, they take in more people than they can serve and then the service goes for tos

Khandani Rajdhani Thali celebrated their Rajwar festival last month all over the country, which featured a special menu and unlimited sweet selections, and I was lucky enough to have tried that out. We were received with a traditional teeka being put on your foreheads and with a wide grin on everyones faces, like we had come over to someones place for Diwali. It felt nice.
But I must warn you. To take this thali down is not an option for the faint hearted. In the middle of all these things being served to you, from Daal Baati Choorma to Gatte ki Sabzi to Biscuit Paranthas to Malpuas with Rabri, and the bordering-on-annoying hospitality that insists on multiple servings, you must have some real will power. So I decided to work around my Thali strategically. I did not take second servings, and I took every bowl out of my plate once it was over. And my task was finally accomplished.
But then the sweets arrived, and I may be in love with an inanimate object, the Malpua with Rabdi, and maybe cheating on the gorgeously crunchy Jalebis by the side, while having a long distance affair with the Chikoo Halwa.
With hallucinations of my bed and wanting to get to it as soon as possible, I struggled to get up and leave but how could I, without their outstanding Paan Shots! Loved my experience and would definitely come back for more. With a larger appetite for sure!
