Here's a buffet-only restaurant... one with a big heart. It sprawls over 6,000sq ft, serves five cuisines, and 200 dishes - unlimited Thai, Lebanese (cold mezze), Japanese (sushi), European/Global, Indian for a flat Rs. 1,876 per head, lunch or dinner (unlimited Kingfisher beer served with dinner only); Sunday Brunch: Rs. 2,900 with Champagne; Breakfast: Rs. 1,018). Walk down the sweeping wooden staircase into a space with large open kitchens (counters and suspended glass shelves bustle with activity), silent and smell-less. A giant interactive buffet is laid out with most things being cooked afresh. For starters, it is the above-average Lebanese Hummus, creamy Baba Ganoush, Muttabal, and warm Pita Bread. From the European/Global and grills, it is the Potato and Fava Bean Salad, freshly tossed crunchy Caesar Salad, Potato Purée and even the steak which pass muster. Skip the lacklustre Grilled Chicken. The highlights of the Indian section are the home-style dishes (bhindi, avial, phulkas), South Indian Andhra and Kerala curries. Alas! These are served cold or lukewarm. The Thai curries lack punch as do the Pad Thai Noodles. From the flamboyant counter of Indian mithais and desserts, the dark Chocolate Mousse, the cheesecake, crêpes and soft-serve ice cream are worth trying. The rest are best avoided. The air-conditioning could do with cooling down and some of the dishes with warming up. The food comforts more than it dazzles. P.S. Why on earth would they name a handsome, high-ceilinged, sprawling restaurant after Santacruz’s pin code (55) is anybody’s guess.

Fifty Five East is for buffet meals and for families nothing can be better then this. I love coming here because of their lavish food spread and variety of international cuisine. Indian, Japanese, Thai, Lebanese and European are the options available here with unlimited thalis. Hummus, Pita Bread and Faya Bean Salad, Grilled Chicken are things not to be missed at all. Pad Thai Noodles is also a dish I do not like missing out on. The menu also has very good option of desserts and in dinner buffet they serve Beer. Food can not be more lavish and amazing then at the Fifty Five East restaurant.
