Since 1937 (flagship location near Ruia College), this very basic, brightly lit, white tiled-wall, non-airconditioned eatery with cafeteria-style laminated tables and fixed chairs has been serving flavourful, hot and fresh VFM South Indian Thali fare. Friendly and caring waiters bustle about at all hours: breakfast, lunch and dinner (and snacks in-between!). At peak hours, be prepared for soaring noise levels and crammed seating conditions. Madras Onion Sambhar and Rasam are delicious. Wholesome food reminiscent of home-kitchen fare with prices that can’t be beat — lunch is priced at Rs 35 (yes, you read that right!) and full meals, served on fresh plantain leaves, cost Rs 70. On Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, the menu includes Payasam. The takeaway meals cost Rs 40. People come from far and near on Sundays after 3.30pm for their Adai (special South Indian Dosa). Parking is impossible.
