I'm a regular to this place and love the food. I'm also quite happy with their service. People have a smile on their face all the time. The last visit was a tad disappointing though. There was a piece of stone that we found in the rice. We let them know and free desserts were on their way. However, the smiles disappeared. We are accustomed to smiling good byes but they were also missing this time. We got a feeling that the stone had appeared from my pocket and not from inside the rice. It's not that I'll not visit this place in future but this incident pointed out that the smiles can go away rather easily, no matter how good one proclaims themselves to be.
I'm a fan of Smokin Joe's simply because of the amount of toppings they have on their pizzas. You don't have to hunt for a chicken piece like you need to do on a Domino's or a Pizza Hut pizza. The ambiance of the restaurant is not great and hence I prefer them delivering to my home. I like their Hot Chicken Pizza.
I had great hopes from Sigree as all of us trooped in for our lunch buffet to celebrate my friend's marriage registration. I was a little disappointed when we were told that the lunch buffet was about to be over and we better hurry (we had called to book). I would have expected some more courtesy than what was shown. Anyway, we went in and tore into the food. The snacks were excellent, especially the Chicken Hariyali Kebab and the Mutton Seekh Kebab. But the main course spread was disappointing. I didn't try any of the veg items and instead tried out the non-veg fare. The Chicken Biryani was really not up to the mark. Being from Kolkata I'm very finicky about Biryani and frankly speaking, Kolkata joints make better Biryani any day. The Mutton Rogan Josh was tasty but Butter Chicken was too sweet. Some of my friends instead opted for dal-chawal and on hindsight, I should have probably done the same. Yes, I loved the desserts and had all of them - kheer, caramel custard, pineapple cake, gulabjamun and strawberry ice cream. Overall, it was a so-so experience that was made up by the kebabs and the sweets. I've had food in Sigree Kolkata and that is far better. Service was very good though.
I've visited Ccasanova twice and have enjoyed everything about it. The dining space is large and spacious and there is a touch of class associated with it. There is enough space between the tables for you to converse without having to look over your shoulder. The food is excellent, to say the least. I've tried Mexican and Italian food at this joint and loved both. The only thing that the owners could look at is hiring some more sophisticated waiters although the current crop is well mannered and at your service all the time. It's just that they need some polish. I would highly recommend Ccasanova to all those who love Italian and Mexican food.
Even if you stay quite a distance away from Viman Nagar, it is worth paying a visit to Kokum. The atmosphere inside is quiet with soft South Indian classical music playing in the background. The person who took our order was one of the best I've come across in Pune. He was always smiling and never looked hassled. While we waited for the food to arrive, we were given some miniature squashed vadas of different flavours. They tastes heavenly with the chutneys. We tried Neer Dosai, Aadu (Mutton) Biryani and a mild chicken dish (I don't exactly remember the name). All three were fantastic. The dosas were soft and pure white, the biryani was spiced to the exact requirement and the chicken was slightly sweet and spicy. Overall the food was great. We were so happy that we tipped Rs. 100 (something we do only if we are extremely satisfied).
