Synopsis

Directed by ace film-maker Chandrakant Kulkarni 'Tukaram' tells you about Tukaram Bolhoba Ambile's journey into becoming 'Sant Tukaram'. Since its announcement the movie was compared with Prabhat Banner's 'Sant Tukaram' and there where debates whether the present movie will match its 1936 classic version.

Critic's Review

The movie talks about how a simple man Tukaram becomes a 'Sant' with his simple living and strong belief in 'Lord Vithal'. It was a big task for script-writers Ajit and Prashant Dalvi to make the movie adaptable for the big screen. Tukaram's big brother Savaji, younger brother Kanha, Tukaram's two wives Rakhma and Aavali, all the characters has their own presence thanks to the scriptwriters! The short and simple dialogues make the movie more realistic. Tukaram explains philosophies of one's life in simple words, which can be seen in various scenes throughout the movie. Cast of the movie compliments these simple dialogues. Special mention has to be made of the main character 'Tukaram' by Jitendra Joshi. It will be unfair to compare Jitendra with Vishnupant Pagnis who played 'Tukaram' in previous 1936 classic. 'Tukaram' portrayed by Jitendra is completely a director's vision. Other cast has also played their parts perfectly. Background score given by Mangesh Dhakde prevents from movie getting too loud. The total duration of the movie is 2 hrs and 30 mins due to compact and efficient editing which makes the movie worth watching!

The movie is well scripted and directed. Jitendra Joshi as Tukaram is believable and puts life in the characters. Others have supported him well. Music is okay though it could have been better. All in all, its worth a watch.

I didn't like this movie... whatever is shown is good but there are so many things could be added to make it better. So many incidents that should have been shown E.g. Vaikunth Gaman, Little child having a fond of eating gool (In Marathi), How and when Namdev Maharaj & Lord Vitthal came in Saint Tukaram's dreams to create the gatha. According to this movie It seems that, the gatha was not came again from water. I had more expectations from this movie. More important incidents could make this better.

Brilliant movie and Brilliant performance by Jitendra Joshi. Marathi cinema is going through a golden phase, particularly noticeable is the cinematography, the technical aspects of marathi films now can compete with their south counterparts. And ofcourse the last scene has been nicely shot.

Very nice picturization.......... Good that they didn't follow old Tukaram movie in which the character of Saint Tukaram was very polite.. We see new Avatar of Tukaram here in this movie.. Also the last scene where Tukaram is said to throw all his word trasure into water and public recalls all his abhanga to re-create the scripture.. very Touching scene it was........

A once in a lifetime performance by Jitendra Joshi. I think the credit goes to the director. The only fault I would like to point out is that the white clothes worn by the characters are too white! They should have been dull white or yellowish white. Otherwise, an outstanding movie and great music.
